I get it.  The Democrats — and those we might just call the radical left-wingers — want President Trump defeated.  Removing him from office has been and remains their obsessive objective since Election Day 2016 – an election he was not expected to win — the left was convinced he was about to lose by a wide margin.  It derailed their ambition to continue in the leftward direction to which President Obama had steered the ship of state.  Even more important, it was to put a woman in the Oval office for the first time – and for no other reason than gender politics.

What ensued has been a four-year effort to remove Trump from office by hook or by crook –  what they call the #NeverTrump Resistance Movement.  If removal failed, at least they should delegitimize his presidency.  Breaking all traditions of civil decency, loyal opposition, and honest journalism, the left has descended into the putrid politics of slander and character assassination.

It is not just directed at Trump.  The disgusting claims of heartlessness are being applied to the Republican Party – especially congressional leaders – and to those of us who do not embrace their hatred.

To say that the behavior of the left has been outrageous is an understatement.  In fact, it has become extremely vile.  The latest narrative is that Trump personally has “blood on his hands” because of the deaths from COVID-19.

In a recent commentary for the Washington Post, writer Jennifer Rubin penned a column under the headline “Hold these Republicans accountable for deaths caused by recklessness.”  This echoes the sentiments of Connecticut Senator Chris Murphy, who essentially charged Trump with mass homicide.

With more than 50 years following politics in America – and a bit of a student of political history – I cannot point to a more dishonest, disgusting and vile political tactic.  Presidents always make tough decisions that involve life and death.  Going to war is the most obvious.

Did Obama have blood on HIS hands when he first encouraged the uprising in Syria and then walked away to leave the rebels to be slaughtered?  And when his inaction created the largest and most deadly mass migration in modern history?  Remember that dead child on the European beach?  Did Obama kill him?  It is noteworthy that the once somewhat respectable Washington Post drew no such conclusions.  It is just one of many examples of double-standard journalism that has reached a zenith (hopefully) during the Trump administration.

Jennifer Rubin herself is a bit of a fraud.  Actually, more than a “bit.”  She is presented as the Post’s
“conservative writer.”  That is about as accurate as referring to Adolph Hitler as a rabbi.

It is true that Rubin contributed articles to a couple of conservative publications in years past.  But in recent years – especially since the Trump administration – Rubin has changed sides with the enthusiasm of a zealot.

Her frequent appearances on MSNBC and CNN are characterized by the same opinions, analyses, and concocted narratives as such hardcore hosts as Lawrence O’Donnell and Rachel Maddow.  Not only does Rubin hate Trump, but she also hates Republicans and conservatives who do not hate Trump.  In the many interviews in which I have seen her, I have yet to hear even an allusion to a single conservative principle.

As bad as she is, her “bloody hands” column is beyond despicable.  She is fast becoming the Alex Jones of the left – and there seems to be a lot of competition for the dubious honor these days.

Rubin is so affected by Trump Derangement Syndrome that she has flip-flopped on virtually every issue just to criticize Trump.

When Trump pulled out of the Paris Climate Accord, Rubin called it “a dog whistle to the far right” and that it was designed to please what she referred to as the “climate-change denial, right-wing base that revels in scientific illiteracy.”  At the time President Obama approved the agreement, Rubin characterized it as a bunch of “nonsense” that would not achieve anything.

When Trump decided to not implement the Iran Nuclear Deal, Rubin said it was an “emotional temper tantrum of an unhinged president.”  At the time the deal was being proposed, Rubin wrote that “if you examine the Iran deal in any detail, you will be horrified as to what is in there.”

In the past, Rubin had been an advocate of moving the U.S. embassy to Jerusalem – and criticized Trump for not doing so at the onset of his presidency.  She accused him of “never keeping his word” and described the President of being “buffoonish.”  When Trump did move the embassy to Jerusalem, Rubin declared it to be “a foreign policy without a purpose.”

Rubin was once a fan of John Bolton and suggested he should get a “high position” in the Department of State and even run for President.  All that changed when Bolton signed up to be Trump’s National Security advisor.  At the time of his appointment, Rubin wrote that it was a “wake-up call to Rs who always assumed wise, calm advisers would be there to constrain Trump.”

When Rubin’s one-time strong support for Israel was criticized by the Post’s management for having hurt the image of the newspaper, Rubin stopped expressing strong opinions on the subject.

It would seem that Rubin’s only principle is to write and speak whatever will keep her employer happy.  That may be how she was able to run up a multimillion-dollar net worth as a humble writer.  She would say “journalist,” but I would not honor her with that title.

So, there ‘tis.
