Trump’s Polling Numbers Are Up … But The Media Ignores It

As a professional news watcher – all across the board – every now and then I sense that something is missing.  The latest victim of media censorship was the latest polls.  With the obsessive and excessive coverage of every nuance of the Coronavirus outbreak, you would think there would be a little time to spare for other subjects.

It suddenly occurred to me that I have not seen any polling results on President Trump’s favorable rating.  This was a standard story on virtually every newscast – especially if Trump’s numbers took a dive.  That was big news.  Yet, hundreds upon hundreds of hours of droning repetitive reports and jaded analyses have produced no reporting on the latest polling numbers.

My first reaction was that the polling companies had suspended their operation during the Coronavirus shutdown.  But that did not make sense since the pollsters use electronic means to gather information – and Trump’s popularity would seem to have exceptional news value in this time of chaos and crisis.

According to the left-wing news media, Trump is doing a terrible job.  He is being hammered incessantly by the Democrat partisans who dominate the so-called news media.  But what do we the people think?

Since the answer was not being provided by the news, I had to do my own research.  And what did I discover?  It would seem that the people of America give Trump a much better job performance review than does the partisan liberal establishment.

There has been what some have described as a “sharp upward turn” for Trump.  You mean, that after all the criticism and blame heaped on Trump for everything associated with the Coronavirus outbreak – and the sharpest drop in stock market history — the people of America think that he is doing a good job as president?

The very things that Democrats and their media flunkies thought would finally take Trump down were actually contributing to his rise.  In terms of handling the Coronavirus, the daily Consult Poll showed a 53 percent to 39 percent favorable rating – up 10 points in a couple of days.  What should humble the Democrats is that the increase was due to an 8 percent increase in approval among independents and Democrats.

An Axios/Harris Poll shows 56 percent of Americans now approve of Trump’s handling of the outbreak – up from 51 percent just a week ago.

The Monmouth Poll had a similar finding – with 50 percent of respondents approving of Trump’s handling of the Coronavirus issue and 45 percent disapproving.  The Monmouth poll also found Trump’s general approval rating moving up to 46 percent.

The ABC/Ipsos Poll had 55 Percent of Americans approving of his handling of the pandemic and 43 percent disapproving.  That was a jump of 12 percentage points.

A recent Emerson poll gave Trump a 49 percent approval rating against a 41 percent disapproval.

What makes these number so important is that they suggest that Democrats’ and liberal media’s efforts to take down Trump in a third major political assault is not only not working, it appears to be backfiring.

Initially, Democrats and their media allies spent the better part of two years spinning the Mueller investigation as the thing that would bring down the Trump presidency.  That failed miserably when Special Counsel Robert Mueller declared unequivocally that the Trump campaign did not collude with Russian meddling in the 2016 General Election.

Democrats then thought a totally partisan impeachment of Trump would do the job – even with the inevitability that the Senate would not find him guilty and remove him from office.  After a merciless pounding by Democrat politicians and the press, Trump emerged from the failed impeachment effort with improved polling numbers.  It had backfired on House Speaker Pelosi.

The Coronavirus pandemic handed Democrats and the press what they believed would finally be an event that would crash Trump’s numbers and make him unelectable in November.  And again, Trump, his administration and Republicans were – and are — being pounded dishonestly with 24/7 partisan criticism from Democrats and the press.  But initial polling suggests that those efforts may also be backfiring.

The fact that Trump took early action to ban travel into the United States from China and then other nations – and the fact that he appointed a premier panel of the most respected medical professional to address the virus issue – appears to sit well with the American public.

In the recent days of the crisis, Trump and his team have stood for prolonged press briefings on a daily basis.  To some extent, it seems that action may have blunted much of the carping from the Fourth Estate – or at least exposed the media’s outright dishonest reporting.  The public can hear the issues firsthand – from the President and the top medical and financial experts — and not after the media has put it through their anti-Trump spin machine.

What makes this attempt to bring down Trump particularly interesting it that much of the effort is based on a long-held belief that his re-election was largely dependent on the economy.  The fact that his numbers are either holding steady – or going up – suggests that there may be other considerations at work in the minds of the voters.  Maybe the voters just do not like the Democrats, their candidates, and their proposals.  I have not seen any polling on that.

So, there ‘tis.
