Pelosi Destroys the Credibility of the House Intelligence Committee

If President Trump is suspicious of the actions of the House Intelligence Committee, it is House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s fault.  It has long been the tradition of the Intelligence Committee to stay far away from partisan politics – and, when necessary, to carry out their classified investigations and inquiries in strict confidentiality.

Had that tradition continued, the concerns over Russian meddling in the upcoming election would have been handled behind closed doors with both the Executive and Legislative branches working together in the best interest of the nation.  That is obviously not happening.

President Trump – who verbalize these thoughts readily – is upset because security official Shelby Pierson, is reported to have told members of the Intelligence Committee that the Russians are planning to interfere in the 2020 election – and their motivation is to get Trump re-elected.

That, in itself, would be odd since Trump has been tougher on Russia than any President since Ronald Reagan.  That is not an opinion.  That is a matter of public record.  It would seem that Russian President Vladimir Putin would be much happier with socialist Bernie Sanders – whose foreign policy is even more restrictive than Trump’s and who even spent his honeymoon in the old Soviet Union at the height of the Cold War.

But if trust between the White House and the House Intelligence Committee has been broken, you can easily identify the culprit.  It is Pelosi.

When she decided to put California Congressman Adam Schiff in charge of the Committee, she put one of the most strident partisans in the chairmanship.  That was the first bad move.

Even worse.  Pelosi set aside the proper constitutional role of the Judiciary Committee to hold impeachment hearings because she did not trust Chairman Jerry Nadler – a pint-sized pugnacious congressman from New York.  While he was sufficiently partisan, Nadler has a shortcoming — a big mouth.

Breaking with all tradition, Pelosi placed the Intelligence Committee – with slick-talking Adam Schiff – in charge of what she called an “impeachment inquiry” – leaving the Judiciary Committee as the rubber stamp following the “inquiry.”

THAT is what instantly transformed the Intelligence Committee from one of the least partisan and most secretive committees of Congress into the most politicized and weaponized committees. Bipartisanship was out the window – and a flow of politically crafted leaks undermined all private deliberations.

By making the Intelligence Committee and political pit bull Adam Schiff the face of impeachment Pelosi did irreparable harm with the important function of the Committee – and the Congress.

As a person who lets we the people know what he thinks, Trump has openly expressed his concern that  classified intelligence information provided to Schiff and the Democrats on his Committee will be used against the President – weaponized, as it were.  They will do the same thing that they did during the impeachment inquiry –selectively leaking information to the most anti-Trump news media to spin negative stories.

And so far, the biased press has responded in their traditional role as propagandists for Democrats.  They did not take the initial story and investigate all the facts.  What was said to the Committee?  In what context?  What else was said during all that testimony?  Why was not the President informed and given a heads-up briefing – as would be the proper course of action?

Regardless, the story was hyped to the max – sensationalized – in the newscasts.  It was introduced as the lead item with words like “major story, “blockbuster” and “dramatic developments.”  Program hosts and their panels of parroting pundits went into overdrive – repackaging their three-year failed narrative that Trump is colluding with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

MSNBC’s whacko lefty, Lawrence O’Donnell, even went so far as to allege that Trump is an agent of Russia – and dubbed the administrations as the “Trump-Putin Regime.”  To my amazement, friends I know to be otherwise rather intelligent are absorbing that crap as fact.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer once gave Trump an ominous warning.  He recommended against feuding with the intelligence community because “… they have six ways from Sunday at getting back at you,”  That is far different than the Democrats’ more recent contention that all intel bureaucrats are just non-partisan hard-working public servants.

After almost 50 years of analyzing politics, I get a sense of things.  I think this is going to be another comedic pratfall for the Democrats.  That is because while they have enormous power of the political narratives thanks to a politically corrupted press, there are still sufficient lines of communication that the truth generally makes it through the flak.

Thanks to Pelosi, the integrity of congressional intelligence has been severely corrupted.

So, there ‘tis.
