OMG Harry and Megan are bolting the royal family

It would seem that our mainstream news industry has taken on all the attributes of checkout counter publications over the departure of Prince Harry and his wife, Megan, from the official royal family of England. In many instances, the royal saga has actually taken the top-of-the-news spot from obsessive anti-Trumpism.

The decision by the young royals was described in news reports with such terms as “royal chaos,” “scandal,” “huge story,” “historic event,” “a slap at the Queen” and on and on.  For days, media mavens posed such questions as “How will the separation be accomplished?” “Will they keep their titles?”  Or more importantly, “Will they keep all the money?”

And the biggest question of all, “Who caused it?”  “Was it that American woman breaking into the House of Windsor?”

Many of the reports suggest that this has never happened before.  Really?  You do not have to be an English History major to know that a king – Edward VIII, by name – stepped down from the throne after only 326 days to marry the woman he loved – an American divorcee.  Those were times when “divorce” and “royal family” never appeared in the same sentence – and Wallis Simpson was a commoner, to boot.  And by the way, what is so beguiling about divorced American women that they can get kings and princes to exit the palace?

Harry and Megan are not the only royals to withdraw from official duties – although for very different reasons.  Prince Phillip – the Queen’s consort – has withdrawn from public events due to his advanced age (98).  The Queen’s son, Prince Andrew, withdrew from royal roles because of immaturity – mostly the ages of his paramours.  While he is still in line for the Crown, Prince Charles created an un-royal fuss when he divorced the glamorous Princess Diane to marry his longtime love, the glamour-challenged Camilla Parker Bowes.

During her 65 years on the throne, Queen Elizabeth has had to deal with a significant number of family, personal and political crises – and to her credit, she has done a masterful job of handling them.  In fact, she has personified all that is great about the Royal Family that one can only wonder how the monarchy will fare when she is no longer the Queen of England.  It would seem to be in danger of losing some of that grandeur and greatness.

Now having said all of that, one can still wonder why our American media can provide so much time and print space in hyping the Harry and Megan celebrity story to such astronomical heights.  Especially when they can virtually ignore stories of enormous importance to the American public – such as the signing of the first phase of the China trade agreement; the signing of the Mexican/Canadian Trade Agreement; the federal appellate court enabling President Trump to use Defense Department money to build 400 miles of THE WALL.  But then, we know why they do that.

Instead of giving Trump credit for ANYTHING, the American press would rather go overseas for their top highly-inflated story.  In terms of the intrigues of the British royal family, the big question on this side of the pond may be, “Who cares?”

So, there ‘tis.

Well said Larry – who cares? President Trump is the real story and the hero of the hour. Wish we had him here in OZ.
