France Is Closing Mosques By The Hundreds

The French government has had enough of militant Muslim violence and is taking steps to diffuse the situation. After a string of attacks, officials announced plans to close between 100 and 160 mosques – about five percent of the 2,600 in operation.

In December 2015, Arabian news agency Al Jazeera announced that France would probably shutter up to 160 Islamic mosques in a nationwide police crackdown on terrorism. The mosques in question were places of worship that also preached radical violence and intolerance against non-Muslims.

The official response was triggered after a state of emergency was declared in France after attacks in Paris left at least 128 people dead. The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) group organized the attack which then-President Francois Holland called an “act of war.”

Four gunmen killed at least 80 people attending a rock concert and about 40 more people were killed in five other attacks in the Paris region, including an apparent triple suicide bombing outside the national stadium, Stade de France.

Hassan El Alaoui, who directs the nominations of regional and local Muslim imams (Muslim worship leader) and mediating between the imams and prison officials reported:

“According to official figures and our discussions with the interior ministry, between 100 and 160 more mosques will be closed because they are run illegally without proper licenses, they preach hatred, or use takfiri speech.”

A takfiri is a Muslim who accuses another Muslim of apostasy (the formal disaffiliation from, abandonment of, or renunciation of a religion by a person). El Alaoui added:

“This kind of speech shouldn’t even be allowed in Islamic countries, let alone secure countries like France.”

French authorities also searched 2,235 Muslim businesses and homes and arrested 232 people with ties to known Islamic terror groups.

Meyer Habib, a Jewish member of the French parliament, said at the time:

“We will have to have a review of our national and international strategy in our war against the Jihadists. We are going to have be more careful about identifying our enemies and our allies.”

“We can have no mercy on these terrorists,” added Habib.

In the United States, Alabama and Michigan announced they would refuse to accept any immigrants from Syria after the French 2015 Islamic terror attacks. Alabama’s Governor Robert Bentley promised his constituents that his Southern state would not welcome foreign violence on American soil:

“As your governor, I will not stand complicit to a policy that places the citizens of Alabama in harm’s way. The acts of terror committed over the weekend are a tragic reminder to the world that evil exists and takes the form of terrorists who seek to destroy the basic freedoms we will always fight to preserve. I will not place Alabamians at even the slightest possible risk of an attack on our people.”

Louisiana’s governor Bobby Jindal wrote a cautionary letter to former Democratic President Barack Obama who planned to welcome 10,000 Syrian refugees into the U.S. in 2016, telling the Liberal leader:

“Authorities need to investigate what happened in Europe before this problem comes to the United States…[It is] irresponsible and severely disconcerting to place individuals, who may have ties to ISIS, in a state without the state’s knowledge or involvement.”

In early 2016, French government officials who raided French mosques discovered military armaments. Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve said that “one-third of the quantity of war-grade weapons that are normally seized in a year” were confiscated.

On November 15, 2019, French Secretary of State for the Interior Laurent Nuñez announced that, since February 2018, officials had shut down 12 places of worship, four schools, and 129 drinking establishments in 15 neighborhoods “struck by political Islamism and communitarianism.”

Nuñez explained the French government’s position regarding the unprecedented closures:

“We are fighting against political Islamism which suggests that the law of God is superior to that of the Republic.”

On October 3, 2017, the French Parliament passed an anti-terrorism law after lifting the state of emergency. That bill was approved by 415 votes to 127, with 19 abstentions, and granted police exceptional powers to combat radical Islamists.

Police were empowered to conduct house raids and warrantless searches with no judicial oversight, including at night. The 2017 law also allowed officials to place suspects under house arrest without going through the normal judicial process, placed restrictions on gatherings, and authorized closing mosques.

United Nations experts, who have been advocating open borders for Islamic immigrants, claimed that the victims of the new French law were the foreign perpetrators rather than the natives being subjected to slaughter and violence. Special Reporter on the protection of human rights in the context of countering terrorism Fionnuala Ni Aolain stated:

“It is deeply concerning that the Muslim minority community is being constructed as a per se ‘suspect community’ through the sustained and broad application of a counter-terrorism law.”

Meanwhile, the French National Plan for the Prevention of Radicalization (PNPR) is moving forward as Islamic extremist activities continue. Radicalization in France has become so commonplace that rules have been enacted to allow public employees to alert their superiors of potentially-radicalized colleagues.

The French have finally awakened to the fact that their policies of accepting muslim refugees has backfired on them and seem to be taking appropriate steps to quash radicalization. Long overdue.

The simple truth is that Christianity allows for self government and thus democracy; Islam allows only the rule of Allah which does not include democracy.
