Senators Will Swear To Be Fair … But …

Ever since Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and Judiciary Chairman Lindsey Graham have said that they have made up their minds about impeaching President Trump, there has been a lot of focus on the oath that all senators are required to take before the trial commences.

Of course, Democrats and the anti-Republican news media are saying that McConnell and Graham will be violating that oath by not having an open mind.  Some go so far as to say that the two Senate leaders should recuse themselves from the proceedings.

The criticism of McConnell and Graham is on a permanent loop over at CNN and MSNBC, as can be expected.  Regardless, it is all a bunch of biased political poppycock.  The hypocrisy of the left-wing political combine is obvious when you consider that there is likely not one Democrat senator who has not already made up his or her mind.

Although they did not take such an oath, it has been obvious for weeks, months and even years that the majority of Democrats in the House had a closed mind in the obsessive intention to impeach Trump.  They even forced Speaker Nancy Pelosi to unwisely abandon her contention that any impeachment had to be bipartisan, have the overwhelming support of the American people and be based on irrefutable evidence of wrongdoing.  Yet, she proceeds without any of that.

It is no small irony that the only bipartisanship was a handful of Democrats voting against impeachment.  On that point, one can only imagine how the news media would have trumpeted any Republican defectors – turning them into their version of a national hero.  That same so-called news media virtually ignored the defection of four Democrat House members.

Virtually every senator could fairly argue that they already have been open-minded.  God knows, the so-called evidence has been laid out in public over and over … and over again.  Unless there is new evidence, they each can claim that they have objectively looked at the facts and pre-emptively came to a fair-minded conclusion.  Of course, it would be a pile of bovine byproduct, but that is the currency of politics.

The oath issue may make for some good partisan talking points but has virtually no relevance to reality.  It will not be an issue that alters the course of future events – I swear.

So, there ‘tis.
