Attorney General William Barr has made it no secret that he does not agree with all of the conclusions drawn by Inspector General Horowitz in his report on the originations of the Russian Probe. Now, he has takes a direct swipe at former FBI director James Comey for expressing a sense of vindication from the Horowitz report.

In a recent interview with Fox News, Barr tore into Comey’s reaction to the Justice Department inspector general’s report on the Russia investigation.

Barr sat down with Fox’s Martha MacCallum, as the House of Representatives was debating two articles of impeachment ahead of the now completed vote that has impeached President Trump in the House. Even though this was prior to the conclusion of the floor vote, Barr noted that the Constitution specifically includes a high standard for impeachment, and said he does not believe the allegations against President Trump meet that standard.

As for Comey, Barr said he does not view the situation the same way as the former FBI director. In an interview, also on Fox News, after the report came out, Comey said that the report did not show that his agents engaged in any intentional misconduct. Horowitz did say that the investigation was launched properly and that he did not see evidence of political bias. Still, he has also said that the motivation behind the FBI’s actions remains unknown – a sentiment that Barr also holds.

“One of the things that I object to is the tack being taken by Comey, which is to suggest that people who are criticizing or trying to get to the bottom of the misconduct are somehow attacking the FBI. I think that is nonsense,” Barr said. “We’re criticizing and concerned about misconduct by a few actors at the top of the FBI, and they should be criticized if they engaged in serious misconduct.”

Attorney General Barr also pushed back on former Director Comey’s assertion that he had no knowledge of the “particulars” of the FBI’s infamous Crossfire Hurricane probe, in which the bureau was found to have made 17 “significant errors” in pursuing FISA warrants to surveil members of the 2016 Trump campaign.

Barr has also confirmed that U.S. Attorney John Durham, who he had tapped to lead an investigation into the original probe, was broadening his scope to look at other intelligence agencies.

“He’s not just looking at the FBI, he’s looking at other agencies, and departments, and also private actors, so it’s a much broader investigation,” Barr said. “Also, it’s not just looking at the FISA aspect of it, he is looking at all the conduct both before & after the election.”
