Rand Paul was just assaulted by a (typical?) New Yorker

I must preface my comments by saying that two of my dearest friends are Jewish Liberal Democrats from New York.  One is an 88-year-old woman here in Florida.  We bonded as friends after we disagreed over a column she wrote for the local newspaper.  I sent her an email outlining my counterpoints.  That led to lunch and a four year – and counting – friendship.

The other is my late college roommate’s brother, who left New York to spend his career as a scriptwriter in Hollywood – working with such entertainment icons as Bob Hope and the ladies of the “Golden Girls.”  He semi-retired to Maine and we keep up a once-a-week phone conversation.

We do not talk politics a lot, but when we do it is civil, intelligent, objective and respectful.  To the extent they read my conservative commentaries, they are very complimentary of the writing and the points I raise.

But then there are those other New Yorkers – and I run into a LOT of them here on the east coast of southern Florida.  They are tough-talking, rude, crude, arrogant and possessed with a self-righteous sense of entitlement to dress down anyone with whom they disagree.

Kentucky Senator Rand Paul ran into a couple of them recently when on a book tour in California.  The burly couple accosted the legislator in a confrontation that could only be described as a verbal assault.

Given the ferociousness of their in-your-face confrontation, Paul had every reason to be fearful for his safety – especially since he is still getting over the removal of part of his lung after a deranged neighbor physically attacked him.  Since the crime of assault is to engender fear – and does not require physical contact (that is battery) – the couple confronting Paul could have been – and maybe should have been — charged with a crime.

Obviously, the woman involved had no shame or sense of decency.  She seemed perfectly willing to make a fool of herself, malign the image and reputation of her hometown and cast a negative image on the folks of the left by performing on camera – assumedly Paul’s cell phone cam.

Looking squarely into the lens, the woman declared that “You have just run into two people from New York … and we are not going to take your Republican bullshit anymore.”  The fact that she would preference her rage by declaring their residency shows how too many New Yorkers take pride in being obnoxious.

In that one exchange, the lady – and I use the term loosely – provided yet another example of the behavior of the unhinged denizens of the radical left — the particularly virulent New York variety, in this case.

Unfortunately, this sort of uncivil interaction has become far too common at the grassroots.  Former White House Secretary Sarah Sanders was booted from a restaurant solely because she worked for President Trump.  Senate Majority Leader and his wife were accosted in front of their home by a small group of Trump haters.  A conservative journalist was attacked by an Antifa mob.  And there have been innumerable attacks of folks wearing MAGA gear.

For sure, there are people on the right who behave badly, but – tabulating incident by incident – the left is are more likely to breach etiquette, civility, and even the law to demonstrate their political fervor.  The behavior is endorsed and promoted by such Democrat leaders as Congresswoman Maxine Waters, who called on her people to confront Trump supporters on the public commons – admonishing them to not allow her political enemies to feel comfortable or safe in public.

During the 2016 presidential election, Texas Senator Ted Cruz was criticized for contrasting the “New York attitude” with the more civil folks in fly-over America.  He tapped a nerve because people, like the woman who attacked Paul, have created and reinforced the negative New York stereotype.  It is a left-wing arrogance that is reflected in the New York liberal news media – perhaps not as physical, but as arrogant, self-righteous and biased.

I guess that woman is very proud of herself – and will gain a lot of “you go, girl” pats on the back from her like-minded compatriots in the Big Apple.  To the rest of we the people, however, she is a blight on our mostly civil society.

So. There ‘tis.

By not filing legal complaints against people like the female, Rand Paul and others enable and encourage them. He should have had her arrested.

As my dearly departed daddy (and mama) would’ve said, “That was no lady”. They both referred to that stereotype as “a woman”. Sooner or later, one or more of them will do something very unfortunate, for them, and they will take up residence in the crossbar hotel.
