NJ Democrat Calls Out Liberal Identity Politics

NJ Democrat Calls Out Liberal Identity Politics

There’s been a lot of talk lately about identity politics – but what is it, exactly? The dictionary definition is “politics in which groups of people having a particular racial, religious, ethnic, social, or cultural identity tend to promote their own specific interests or concerns without regard to the interests or concerns of any larger political group.”

Another source defines identity politics as “when people of a particular race, ethnicity, gender, or religion form alliances and organize politically to defend their group’s interests.”

The term “identity politics” has been around since the countercultural days of the 1960s and 1970s and has been used by different groups with wildly different meanings over the years. Other types of identity politics are founded on age, religion, social class, profession, culture, language, disability, education, race or ethnicity, language, sex, gender identity, occupation, sexual orientation, urban or rural habitation, and veteran status.

White Americans are about to become a minority in the country they claimed as their own from the Native Tribes. This is a major victory for many but not all U.S. residents:

“While many in our multicultural cities may well celebrate the ‘browning of America’ as a welcome step away from ‘white supremacy,’ it’s safe to say that large numbers of American whites are more anxious about this phenomenon, whether they admit it or not.”

U.S. history is a story whose main characters have been white male Protestants. Recently, American liberals have changed their tone, rhetoric, and logic, shifting identity politics away from inclusion (e.g., “No Child Left Behind” was an education slogan under the Democratic Obama administration) and toward exclusion (e.g., “Impeach Trump” and “Push Back All Democratic Lawmakers In Public Places”).

During a July 2019 council meeting, Old Bridge Councilman Mark Rizzoli (D-NJ) accused his compatriots of prioritizing identity politics over consistent law enforcement:

“The issues that pertain to public safety cut across party lines…When far-left Democrat politicians and other elected officials ignore laws that they don’t like, they encourage and perpetuate a spirit of lawlessness among their constituents with behaviors that are reckless and sadly, irreversible.”

Rizzoli continued, only to be interrupted by a female dissenter who had to be reprimanded by the council chair to remain a respectful silence or be escorted out of the room by the sergeant-at-arms. After regaining the floor, the councilman explained:

“When you have elected officials who have taken an oath to uphold the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of New Jersey…tweeting out warnings advising criminals how to elude and evade the law enforcement community, that is a disgrace and you are in violation of your office and you are obstructing justice.”

Then, Rizzoli saID Democratic labeling has been weaponized to promote social conformity to a Socialist viewpoint:

“The reality is the sanctuary state is about identity politics, dimly veiled under the tactical agenda of the socialists who want to shame the public into believing anybody who opposes them are racist or xenophobic haters.”

The Democratic council member called out the injustice being carried out in his jurisdiction regarding illegal immigration:

“When New Jersey’s Attorney General calls for sheriffs across the state to ignore federal immigration laws, and when the governor and his soldiers rally behind him, it once again validates that New Jersey is on a slippery slope toward political anarchy.”

At issue was the state’s policy on immigration under Democratic Governor Phil Murphy. The Immigrant Trust Directive is purportedly “designed to strengthen trust between New Jersey’s law enforcement officers and the state’s diverse immigrant communities, thereby ensuring that victims and witnesses feel safe reporting crimes.”

The Directive muzzles New Jersey police officers who can’t “stop, question, arrest, search, or detain any individual based solely on actual or suspected immigration status” or ” participate in ICE’s civil immigration enforcement operations,” among many other illegal restrictions that violate federal laws.

“State government thinks it’s acceptable to strong-arm sheriffs into ignoring the federal immigration laws. When an oath is taken to uphold the law, that means of them [lawmakers],” said Rizzoli, who drove home his point:

“The rule of law still applies and so does the separation of powers and judicial review. State and local policymakers must accept that they are not in any position to pick and choose which laws they will honor and which laws they will ignore.”

Then, the New Jersey councilman pulled no punches and went for the knockout punch:

“Identity politics was created to charm and manipulate an unwilling community of people into dependency, brainwash them into believing socialist rhetoric to get their votes. It’s not about empowering people – it’s about keeping them reliant on government by dangling carrots of free college, driver’s licenses, free health benefits, free legal aid, and sanctuary status.”

In case there was any doubt left on Rizzoli’s position regarding New Jersey’s Democratic leadership’s rogue actions, he stated for the record:

“This policy is insane and is anti-American.”

Ocean County, New Jersey, announced it will file a federal lawsuit to challenge the Immigrant Trust Directive.

Rizzoli felt so strongly about the illegal activities pursued by his state’s leadership that he switched political sides and announced he will challenge Democratic liberal Bonnie Watson-Coleman in 2020 for the Congressional seat that represents District 12, New Jersey.

The new Republican candidate said:

“I am not looking for a hashtag movement, nor am I seeking the proverbial 15 minutes of glory. I am a patriotic American and by running for Congress with the Republican Party, I will fight for the rights of American citizens and for their safety.”

Rizzoli is not the only American who is tired of being labeled racist, intolerant or deplorable by liberals with an agenda that undermines the underpinning of our great nation: the U.S. Constitution.
