Hunting down Hunter Biden

Hunting down Hunter Biden

In analyzing virtually every political issue of the day, it is necessary to work against the partisan spin of the elitist major media.  The Washington Post took on the motto “Democracy dies in darkness.”  Perhaps true, but ethical journalism is dying in broad daylight every day.

The issues surrounding Hunter Biden – son of former Vice President Joe Biden is a case in point.  While the left-wing media functions as the uncompromised prosecutor when it comes to President Trump and his children, they become the defense for all things Democrat – and that is clearly the case of Hunter Biden.

The very media that originally raised questions and suspicions about the younger Biden’s lucrative involvement with a corrupt oligarch-controlled fossil fuel company in Ukraine and other business dealings in China.  Today, those media outlets have declared that the situation has been fully investigated and the Bidens have done nothing wrong.  Nothing to see there – and if Trump says otherwise, he is lying.

Both the Obama and Trump administrations have been concerned about corruption in Ukraine – and apparently so have the good citizens of the country.  They threw out the corrupt government for the reform promises of the newly elected President Volodymyr Zelensky.

But before the people took action – and while Ukraine’s largest oil company, Burisma, was considered a corrupt player, Hunter scores a $600,000 per year contract and a seat on the board.  Not bad for a guy with zero experience in the energy industry, zero experience with Ukraine and an unstable personal history of drug and alcohol abuse that would put off most employers.  His only obvious “qualification” is having a daddy who is Vice President of the United States with a lot of influence over a nation coveted by Russia’s Vladimir Putin.

Because of the corruption, America’s essential aid was not always getting to where it was needed.  The Ukraine government began to investigate corruptive influences, including Burisma.  Vice President Biden claims the Ukrainian prosecutor is corrupt and withholds billions of dollars until he is removed from office.  The new prosecutor absolves Burisma and Hunter of any wrongdoing.  Yeah, the prosecutor that Biden put in place.

Lingering over the issue is the question as to whether nothing was found because there was no there there OR because the investigation was shut down in order to get the American aid that Vice President Biden refused to release until he got the old prosecutor filed.  In other words, did Biden do exactly what the Democrats are claiming Trump did – used the leverage of existential aid for a besieged allied nation for a “personal favor.”

At one  point, Biden lied and claimed he had no idea what his son was working on.  It was later revealed that in a telephone exchange, the senior Biden said, “I hope you know what you are doing.”  And Hunter responded, “I do.”  That brief exchange alone reveals that Joe Biden knew what his son was doing AND that he was concerned with his involvement in Burisma – as well he should have been.

Keep in mind that Burisma and the oligarch, Mykola Zlochevsky, were key players in the corrupt world of pre-Zelensky Ukraine.  It seems very reasonable to look into Hunter’s activities.  The American press is quick to insist that it was all investigated and Hunter is absolved of any and all wrongdoing.

There are two potential problems with that.  No one is talking about the details of the investigation. What were the questions to be answered?  Secondly, there are still a number of unanswered questions – not the least of which is exactly what was Hunter doing to earn all the money?  Where did he fit in the decision-making apparat?  Should Hunter have registered as a foreign agent – the oversight that got Paul Manafort indicted in terms of his own dealings with Ukraine.

Then there was that trip to China.  The Vice President invited his son to join him on Air Force Two to explore business relationships in the Middle Kingdom.  Hunter came home with a deal reported to be worth more than a billion dollars – not all his money, of course.

This is yet another deal that it is fair to say would never have dropped into Hunter’s lap were it not for the powerful influence of dear old dad.

The fact that the media cast aside the story they initially launched is not the only peculiar aspect of this issue.  One would think that some of the other Democrat presidential candidates would have jumped on this to take Biden out of the race.  But Biden is a bit of an untouchable after Kamala Harris and Julian Castro saw their campaigns tailspin after attacking the Democrats’ beloved Uncle Joe.

Elizabeth Warren got all flummoxed with asked if her “plan” would prohibit her Vice President’s son from having such a job.  She was not sure.  She said she would have to review it.  I mean, really.  She would have us believe that she has a plan with such detail?

One would expect Bernie Sanders to jump all over Joe and Hunter for being so palsy with billionaire oligarchs.  And all those New Green Dealers should be screaming that the Vice President would have a son making millions for a fossil fuel company.  Shouldn’t the senior Biden be working to shut them down?

Some Biden defenders in the press even played the pity card – noting that Hunter is the Vice President’s last son.  He has a daughter by his second wife, Jill.  Biden’s first wife and a daughter died in a car crash and his other son died more recently of brain cancer.

I guess the theory is that because of the tragedies, Hunter should be beyond criticism.  Having sincere sympathy for Biden’s tragedy does not remove adults from accountability for their actions.

I cannot say whether Hunter engaged in anything criminal – nor can I confirm that he has not.  I do think there are sufficient questions that can be investigated.  And even if there is no crime, the obvious nepotism has its own stench and political consequences.  In this case – and for obvious reasons – the bloodhounds of the media are not inclined to follow the scent.

So, there ‘tis.

These are excellent comments but ironically – similar to the MSM you rightly chastise – you fail to mention the buddy-buddy relationship between Trump and Putin.

This is not a small thing. Putin is not a friend of the USA, as much as he and Trump May get along. Trump has an unfortunate tendency to Blue the lines between his duty as President and his personal feelings toward such notable rascals as Putin and the Saudi king.

I know you feel you must have Trump’s back against the corrupt Democrat/MSM axis, but it’s unfortunate that you end up taking sides against the USA no matter which way you go.

I miss patriotism in the White House. Trump may talk a good game but you ought to notice what he DOES as well as what he says.
