MSNBC’s Chris Hayes misstates purpose of Electoral College

MSNBC’s Chris Hayes proves once again why wide swaths of the American population believe the mainstream media is biased, inaccurate and full of misinformation, after Hayes raveled an interesting hypothesis on the Electoral College.

According to Hayes’ mind numbing opinion, the Electoral College would be unconstitutional…if it wasn’t in the Constitution, please allow me to repeat this again “if it wasn’t in the Constitution.”

Hayes drummed on suggesting, “I think there’s a deeper philosophical question happening, which is: what exactly is America democracy for?” the MSNBC host asked a live audience. “And the weirdest thing about the Electoral College is the fact that if it wasn’t specifically in the Constitution for the presidency, it would be unconstitutional.”

Hayes’ asinine statement proves once again why in two recent Gallup polls American voters found by a margin of 62% that the news they read or see within the mainstream media is biased and that 44% say is inaccurate.

The MSNBC host cleverly conflates fact with fiction, perhaps hoping to continue the dialog started by AOC’s assertion the Electoral College is raciest, despite the elections of former President Obama, being reelected back into the White House.

Hayes’ bizarre rational regarding the constitutionality of the Electoral College lies with the philosophy of law that states one person equals one vote.

“The idea is that each individual’s vote has to carry roughly the same amount of weight as each other individual vote, which is a pretty intuitive concept, but was not a reality,” Hayes explained. “There are all sorts of crazy representational systems that were created that would not give one person, one vote and would disenfranchise certain minorities. You can guess which ones.”

So what are those “crazy representational systems” that Hayes talks about, that would “disenfranchise certain minorities?”

For starters Hayes once again purposely conflates the political act of rezoning voting distracts with the Electoral College, and disenfranchising people of color.

Stating, “Here’s an example. Let’s say you have a city. It’s 60% black and 40% white. Here’s how you ensure white people stay in charge: divide the city into four voting districts but you put the entire black population in one district, 60 percent of the people, and each district allows one city council member and viola. A majority black city is run by a majority white government.”

Once again a clever hoax and the reason why a dubious character like Hayes and his elk are distrusted by a majority of critical thinking individuals.

In that Hayes’ preposterous conclusion has nothing to do with the Electoral College, and why it was created. The deceptive MSNBC host is actually talking about the political process of gerrymandering, which is the practice of drawing district lines, in an attempt to manipulate votes in favor of one political party over another.

Mover political gamesmanship regarding the issue of gerrymandering is practiced by both political parties attempting to redistrict voting maps.

For example in 2018 Democrats in New Jersey days before the Christmas holiday attempted to redraw several districts hoping the busy holiday season would give them cover, However the measure thus far is facing fierce opposition from numerous independent and good-government groups that, together with Republicans, see it as an effort by Democrats to entrench their power base in Trenton, for decades to come.

However according to Hayes, it’s “preposterous” that the Electoral College exists because, “if you run for class president in the 4th grade, you’re elected, if and only if, you get the most votes.”

That basic logic does work, if you’re running for class president in the 4th grade, however not realistic if there are 50 separate states and a few territories and a population of approximately 329 million people scattered throughout those 50-states, and accompanying territories.

Our Founders had the incredible foresight to realize that the America of the 1700 hundreds would be vastly different a hundred years out. So they devised a system that would insure all states had a fair representation of deciding who would be President.

The ingenious system that Hayes along with AOC and other progressives are attempting to discredit, the Electoral College was created for two simple reasons. The first purpose was to create a buffer between the population and the selection of a President. The second as part of the structure of the government that gave extra power to the smaller states.

The Founders, having experienced first hand what a king or a dictator might do with absolute power, decided that an American President could also (once in power), manipulate public opinion, where he would be able rule unopposed forever

Hamilton and the other Founders believed that by creating a system in which no one entity would be able to manipulate the citizenry. Thus the Electoral College would act as a check and balance on an electorate that might be duped.

Moreover that each state within the union would be fairly represented, regardless of population, each state getting a minimum of 3- electoral votes, and each state having the same number of electoral votes as their representative in Congress.

When are people going to understand our Constitution? I guess between basket weaving (this is a good trade) and gender identification in schools, NO real teaching of/in the fundamental of the republic are ever taught. I was disturbed when they deleted shop (to save money>, drivers education (the one class need for every school) yet deleted to keep nonsense crap classes. This is why we have idiots gripping about what our fore -fathers gave us.
Especially the idiots that want to take your right but have NO idea about giving up one, if they were to lose anything they would be crying all over the internet!

You need a live person for an editor. There were so many mis-worded spell check errors in the first few paragraphs that I did not bother reading it all.

Not a lie. You judge his comment to be dumb, or even silly, but it’s not a lie. It is just very different or even opposed to what you would say on the same question. That doesn’t make it a lie. And by the way, this debate has gone on among historians and constitutional scholars for more than two centuries. And neither side is “lying”—just disagreeing.

We live in a Democratic Republic and not democracy. This to prevent people like Napoleon Bonaparte, Stalin, and Hitler from taking power by popular demand so the Electoral College exists so that it is hard to be Dictator to take power in this Country!

The Electoral College works and the old adage is, “If it’s not broken don’t fix it”!!!!!
