President Trump’s bromances with reprobates like Russia’s Vladimir Putin and North Korea’s Kim Jong-Un is befuddling – especially in view of the tough actions the administration has taken against both these countries.

Trump is the first president to put muscle behind a nuclear-free North Korea.  His sanctions and his credible threats are what brought Kim to the table.

But this commentary focuses on Russia.

In terms of the remnants of the old Soviet Union that Putin dreams of rebuilding, the record clearly shows that Trump has been tougher on Moscow than any previous president since Ronald Reagan.  Trump has extend – or as held to – sanctions that are seriously damaging the Russian economy.  He has pushed back against Russia’s increasing influence in the Middle East – including now sanctioning Russia’s principal ally, Iran.  He has sent weapons to Ukraine – something President Obama was loath to do.  While Obama surrendered to Russia’s demands over airspace in Syria, Trump ended the policy and even bombed parts of Syria where Russia had personnel and facilities.  In a direct skirmish with Russian fighters, American forces basically wiped them out.

In terms of Russian influence in our electoral process – and doing something about it – every Trump-appointed head of America’s intelligence agencies have confirmed that Russia has meddled in our elections for years – including 2016 – and is still pursuing that as part of Putin’s international strategy.  The Intel leaders also confirm that other nations – including China, Iran, and North Korea – are currently engaged in covert operations against the United States.  That is not shocking since meddling is standard for covert operations.  We have been known to be engaged, too.

More importantly – and despite the bogus political narratives of the Democrat and the left-leaning news media – our agencies, including the CIA, Homeland Security, the FBI, the State Department and the Department of Justice, ARE taking counter actions as we speak, so to speak.  These run the gamut from sanctions to our own covert actions.

While the Democrats disconnect all the actions by all these departments and agencies for obvious political reasons, these are all part of the Trump’s administration – his appointees and his policies.  Why Trump prefers to play “good cop” to the extent he does is a fair question.  But the actions of the administration in the larger sense strongly suggest that Trump is not allowing America to be a patsy to our adversaries.

Since the General Election of 2016, there has been a basic concern that Putin has been and continues to be a meddler in America’s internal affairs.  His widely stated and largely accepted motivation is to weaken the United States on the world stage by breeding dissention, discord and chaos within America.

Many top leaders have expressed their belief that Putin has succeeded beyond his wildest dreams.  The political chaos within the country is often cited as the reason for China’s recalcitrance on trade and intellectual property, North Korea’s slow-walking denuclearization talks and Russia’s continued aggression against the United States around the world – and most recently in Venezuela.

If Putin wanted to breed disruption within the United States, he has succeeded.  But the real question is: Who is helping him?

We know that the prevailing narrative among Democrats and their media sycophants is that it is one person – Donald J. Trump.  According to their theory, Trump was never to be President because he was unfit for the office.  The highly organized radical Resistance Movement is only a natural response, they claim.

A very good case can be made that it is the radical left driving the Democratic Party — and so much of the so-called national news media that is serving Putin’s interest — far better than Trump’s personal bromance notwithstanding.

This should not come as a surprise.  Election Day 2016 resulted in a traumatic shock to both traditional liberal Democrats – the Hillary folks – and the far left – the Bernie Sanders folks.  It made fools of the left-wing media.

In response, the defeated and demoralized souls of the left did something unprecedented since Democrats started a war over the election of Abraham Lincoln.  They rejected the role of “loyal opposition” and commenced the now well-established Resistance Movement.  While President Obama initially encouraged traditional support for the new President, and called upon the country to work for a successful Trump presidency (I bet you forgot that one), the bulk of the political left called on the institutions of America – the press, academia, business, labor and we the people – to resist Trump at every turn.  In their own words, nothing should be said or done to “normalize” the Trump presidency.  They called for a strategy of constant negativism, constant criticism and the establishment of all sorts of false narrative.

In other words, the battle cry on the left was to generate political chaos – to disrupt the ability of the President of the United States to perform his duties.  It was a strategy to either end the Trump presidency by resignation or impeachment – or most certainly make his re-election even more unlikely than his original election.

If you look at those objectives, they have a familiar ring to them.  Oh yeah!  Those have been the objectives of Putin and the folks in the Kremlin – and like Putin, the American left has succeeded in undermining not just Trump, but the presidency, itself.  Like Putin, they have spread propaganda through a willingly controlled media.  They could even one-up Putin by filing a barrage of court cases and issuing an avalanche of subpoenas.

The American left has always had an anti-American authoritarian gene that has been growing more influential in the body politic since the Days of Rage in the 1960s.  We see it when a member of Congress – Ilhan Omar, by name – blames the United States for the failure of Socialism in Venezuela – or when another member – Rashida Talib – names Israel as the villain for responding to 700 Hamas rockets.

The American news media – such as CNN, with their international reach – interprets Trump’s every action as offensive and even harmful to allies and thus creates resentment within those nations.  They carry Putin’s message to the world.  As participants in the Resistance Movement, the left-wing media promotes anti-American sentiment throughout the world.

If political chaos and disruption are Putin’s goals, then he should send a thank you note to the left-wing Resistance Movement for all their help.

So, there ‘tis.
