In case you are not familiar with Donny Deutsch – which means you are not a regular viewer of MSNBC – he has been a regular on the network’s “Morning Joe” program.  He is described as a “branding expert” – not meaning the guy who puts the hot branding iron on the posterior of cattle.  (Yes, I know they do not do that anymore.)

The image connected with this file should give you some indications of the seriousness of this guy as a political analyst.  He is a limelight craving showboater who adds nothing of substance to the national dialogue.

In the best light, Deutsch’s title means that he is some sort of super sales guru who puts an attractive label on snake oil.  He kind of looks like a central casting sleazy fast-talking peddler, with his overly bold plaid suits and neon ties.  He has a bit of a fashionista flamboyance about him.

He previously had his own rather unfunny comedy show (according to television critics) named “Donny!,  in which he played a satirical character based on … him, which he self-described as an idiotic version of himself.  He did not have to go too far out of character.  One critic wrote, “Deutsch does indeed play an idiot, but one whose stupidity seems more obnoxious than hilarious.”

Deutsch also had a show on CNBC for a while called “.The Big Idea with Donny Deutsch” – in which he would interview successful entrepreneurs.  If you did not catch that show, you are among millions of Americans.  He also did a gig on Trump’s hit show, “The Apprentice.”

How all that history makes Deutsch an informed or qualified commentator on politics and government is not clear.  In fact, if you have seen him more than once on “Morning Joe,” you would know that he is not an expert – or even extraordinarily knowledgeable – on any of the subjects that are discussed on the show.  He is, however, a perversely perfect fit with MSNBC because he is essentially a propagandist for the #NeverTrump Resistance Movement.

Though not very informed or inciteful, he is one hundred percent anti-Trump – ruthlessly so.  His comments about Trump are not exactly intellectually founded.   He has called Trump “physically disgusting” and has expressed his totally unqualified opinion that Present Trump is mentally ill — using medical words like “narcissist” or “sociopath” to diagnose Trump.

The bosses at MSNBC must like Deutsch’s take-no-prisoners approach to Trump specifically and Republicans in general because he suddenly started appearing as a panelist on other shows throughout MSNBC’s broadcast day.

Weeeeell … that has gone so well for MSNBC that Deutsch has now been rewarded with his own show — again.  It is “Saturday Night Politics with Donny Deutsch.”  He obviously believes that branding means putting his name on every show in the fame-over-substance spirit of Parris Hilton and Kim Kardashian.

As if tolerating him as an occasional panelist was not bad enough, having him host his own show is an even greater affront to rational political dialogue and intelligent debate.

In keeping with the MSNBC format, the new Deutsch show will tolerate no varying viewpoints – no counterpoints even to his most biased and mendacious narratives.  His first show featured three re-treads from “Morning Joe” – the so-called legendary columnist Mike Barnicle (fired from the Boston Globe for fabricating stories in the tradition of fellow MSNBC-er Brian Williams), Rick Wilson, a false-flag so-called Republican strategist, who totally falls in line with the networks biased narratives, and Karine Jean-Pierre, representing the uber left MoveOn.org.  These are people who see Trump as the devil incarnate.

Donny proffers a theory that Trump is a sociopathic dictator who is undermining our democracy and destroying the Republic.  He poses the question. “How frightened should we be?”  Then answers that we should be “very frightened.”

Seeing himself as an electronic Paul Revere, Deutsch warns America of the doom that awaits us if we do not end the Trump presidency.  The thought of an election in 2020 to determine Trump’s political fate is too dangerous for the impatient Deutsch.  He wants impeachment NOW!  And in the meantime, Democrats should do everything in their power to prevent Trump from doing things presidents are empowered to do.

Deutsch claims that Trump has committed every misdeed we  see in world dictators.  He said he could enumerate 74 traits that Trump has in common with the worst of the world despots, but he seemed to run out after citing three dubious examples: attacking the news media, undermining the judiciary and breaking down the separation of powers.

Of course, if Trump was the sort of dictator to which Deutsch compares him, old Donny would be languishing in some frozen gulag  — unless he was summarily shot.  Comparing Trump to despots who literally killed millions of people is more than a bit of a stretch.  Deutsch’s description of Trump seems to stem from the belief that the bigger the lie, the more it will be believed – a theory, incidentally, first advanced by Adolph Hitler’s chief propagandist, Joseph Goebbels.  In fact, Deutsch’s anti-trump one-sided and extremely biased screeds seem uncomfortably like the Goebbels approach in which false narratives supersede facts and truth.

As you might expect, the panel of parroting pundits – Barnicle, Wilson and Jean-Pierre – played out their roles as sycophants.  They, to a person, gave nodding agreement to each and every one of Deutsch’s preposterous hyperbolic statements.

Contrary to the Deutsch narrative – which is increasingly being carried as a Democrat and left-wing media theme – Trump, for all his faults, is far from a dictator.  He did not fire Special Counsel Robert Mueller.  He did not block White House staff from meeting with Mueller.  He did not invoke Executive Privilege over any portion of the Mueller Report.

Although, Trump has been unhappy with the grossly biased – and too often inaccurate – reporting, he has remained as one of the most accessible Presidents to the members of Fourth Estate.  He has not had the Justice Department surveil (spy on) reporters as did President Obama with FOX News.  (Oh, did we forget about that one?)

Trump has never bugged the phones of allied foreign heads-of-state as Obama did with German Chancellor Angela Merkel.  (Forget about that one, too?)  And Trump never gave Vladimir Putin assurances that he could be “more flexible” after re-election.  (Caught on an open microphone.)

Obama may not have singled out his critics in the news media as “enemies of the people’ – as has Trump – but Obama did say the FOX perspective on the news was “ultimately destructive” to America.  Pretty close, eh?   And in 2009, Obama’s Communications Director Anita Dunn declared that FOX was not a legitimate news service. “We’re going to treat them the way we would treat an opponent,” she told the New York Times.  Is “opponent” synonymous with “political enemy?”

And a lot of this investigation of the Trump Campaign is starting to look like undemocratic abuse of power by certain folks associated with the Obama White House and the Jim Comey FBI. (Stay tuned on that one.)

There is always room for fair-minded people to disagree over Trump’s polices – and there is legitimate reason to be critical of his personal style – but the kind of shameless and dishonest accusations coming from Deutsch & Co. is fear-mongering at its worst.  They could not beat Trump in the election.  They could not beat him with the false Russian collusion narrative.  They cannot beat him with their ludicrous claims that the economy is not roaring for almost all Americans – and good news for blacks and Latinos.  They cannot beat him on most policies.  Soooo … they make up crap and use (abuse) their media platform to advance it.

For whatever one might think of Trump, there is no reason to take a political huckster like fame-for-fame-sake Donny Deutsch seriously.  Trump is not a dictator.  The American democracy is not imperiled.  The Republic will continue – unless the socialists continue to gain, of course.

On the other hand, Deutsch is an attention-craving empty (but flashy) suit.

So, there ‘tis.
