Ocasio Cortez thinks a non-existent amendment prevented FDR’s re-election

Weeeell, she did it AGAIN.  During a showcase appearance on MSNBC in which Alexandria Ocasio Cortez was interviewed by MSNBC’s “All In” host Chris Hayes, the congresswoman from Queens compared her silly Green New Deal with her idol Franklin Roosevelt’s original New Deal.  Alluding to Republican opposition to both, the lady with an IQ lower than her congressional district number claimed the GOP “had to amend the Constitution of the United State to make sure Roosevelt did not get re-elected.”

Apparently, she was not aware that FDR was elected once and reelected three more times.  There was no constitutional bar preventing him from being re-elected again and again.  The thing that did prevent any additional re-elections was the fact that he was dead – having left the Oval Office and this mortal plain in the early months of his fourth term.

The constitutional amendment that limits presidents to two terms – a tradition that was started by George Washington and adhered to by every president until Roosevelt – was enacted in 1947.  That was two years after FDR croaked at his spa in Warm Springs, Georgia.

While Republicans controlled both the Senate and the House in the 80th Congress, support for the amendment was bipartisan – with 47 House Democrats and 16 Senate Democrats supporting the  measure.  For sure the 22nd Amendment was enacted with the realization that Roosevelt had been taking on more and more authoritarian powers over the years – earning him the title of “America’s first dictator.”   The Amendment was designed to ensure that he would be the last.

Ocasio Cortez’s gaffe was not corrected by Hayes and was not deemed worthy of mention in follow-up reports by the same media than turn a Trump spelling error into a national crisis.

Isn’t it also strange that Saturday Night Live has not satirized or mocked arguably America’s number one most mockable person – Alexandria Ocasio Cortez?  Actually, it is not strange at all.  It is the same reason that the so-called late-night comedians have not made her the fodder of jokes.  Political bias.

There may be three reasons for that.  The most obvious is that the newbie congresswoman from Queens is one of the left’s protected classes.  As a woman and a Hispanic, she is a twofer.  She is also part of the untouchable radical left – a political philosophy that dominates the media as much as it now dominates the Democratic Party.

And the third possible reason is that her serial stupidity is self-mocking.  Satire requires a certain amount of exaggeration.  Think about how Chevy Chase mocked President Ford as being clumsy by outrageous prat falls, or how Alec Baldwin mocks President Trump with over-the-top comments.

The idea of satire is to make the target look foolish by exaggerating personal traits.  If one wishes to engage in satire over Ocasio Cortez’s ignorant statements, you just cannot exaggerate reality.

It appears that Ocasio Cortez would have preferred FDR continue in office ad infinitum.  Socialists tend to like the permanent empowerment of a central government ruling class.  She also fails to understand the difference between ruling from above and governing from below, where we the people are the ruling class.

Ocasio Cortez could be – and if the comedic world was fair, would be – a running punchline for the late-night jokesters.  She would be a natural for those straight lines that come as questions.  You know, like “How dumb is Ocasio Cortez?”  And the response, “She’s so dumb that (complete the answer).  SNL is missing some great material.

By way of excuse or explanation, Ocasio Cortez says that it is okay to be factually wrong as long as you are morally right. Hmmm.  Now, that I think about it, that is a stupid statement, too.

So, there ‘tis.

The 22nd Amendment was crafted to limit presidents to two consecutive terms in office. It was because of FDR that the 22nd was crafted. It doesn’t matter that he died in his 4th term before the amendment was drafted. Leave to a CONservative to warp the truth. Who’d a thought?

AOC reminds me of Junior High School and the herd of drama princesses with no IQ, always stirring up trouble for attention . . . always negative. It’s embarrassing that our America has fallen for such stupidity. How the world must be laughing at us giving this ‘thing’ such press. We have much work to do. Don’t let her get in the way of real progress any longer! PLEASE.
