Democrats and the tar baby

Democrats and the tar baby
March 26

Democrats should go back and read the Uncle Remus story of the “tar baby.” The fictional character was a mannequin made of tar that Br’er Fox constructed to trap Br’er Rabbit.  The more the bunny punched the tar baby, the more he became stuck.  He could not get away no matter how much he struggled.

That Nineteenth Century children’s story might be an apt analogy to the situation in which congressional Democrats and the anti-Trump media find themselves today.  Even after the highly praised Robert Mueller blew away their prolonged false narrative of criminal collusion on the part of President Trump or his campaign – as opposed to the sort of legal collusion you and I engage in every day when we make a plan with someone else – the #NeverTrump Resistance Movement in the halls of both Congress and the Fourth Estate cannot stop punching their political tar baby.

They are falling all over themselves in trying to explain why Mueller’s conclusion – that there was zero evidence of criminal collusion – is wrong.  Forget about the 2000-plus subpoenas, the 500 interviews in 13 different countries and the battalion of investigators digging for dirt over a two-year period at a cost of $25 million.  To make their case, Democrats are engaging in a lot of legal mumble-jumble that is … well … rather unAmerican.

They argue (spin) that just because Mueller found zero evidence against Trump and his campaign folks, it does not mean the they did not commit the crime.  In other words, without any basis in fact – and in direct disagreement with Mueller’s findings – they allege that criminal collusion occurred but was just not proven.  MSNBC’s Nicole Wallace said as much – making herself a legal expert who knows more than Mueller.  Well, actually making herself a disgrace to her profession.

If what the Democrats are saying and doing sounds like a repudiation of the American doctrine that a person is innocent until proven guilty, you are a better legal scholar than those congressional Democrats who are still stuck to their old false narrative – folks like Judiciary Chairman Jerry Nadler and Intelligence Chairman Adam Schiff.  And sadly, the #NeverTrump media is following their Democrat allies in the latest rendition of the old false – and now discredited narrative.

In a slightly different version of that spin, Democrats say that while the evidence (if there is any) may not rise to the level of legal prosecution, it could be sufficient to consider impeachment because – as they argue – the Congress looks at things “more broadly.”  That broader standard for Democrats in Congress seems to be … we do not like the guy.  Trump has done nothing illegal and has not abused his power in any way.  Trump has not even lost a court battle over his uses of power – whereas President Obama lost several.

What is driving this continuation of the false narrative seems to be a loss of rational and objective thinking.  Like Br’er Rabbit the left is collectively panicking – which is understandable.  The radical anti-Trump left – the Resistance Movement – as suffered the greatest shock since Trump’s election, itself.  Not in their wildest dream did they ever expect Mueller to say that there was no criminal conspiracy.  In many ways, they made the grievous mistake of believing their own … you know … bovine byproduct.

If you want to fully understand the depth of the emotional shock to the progressive psyche, you need to know of the comments of Van Jones on CNN.  While many American were rightfully pleased to learn that their President was NOT an agent of Russia or guilty of treason as was frequently and shamelessly alleged, the left is in mourning.  So says Jones.  He said Democrats have been given time to mourn – time to grieve.

In other words, they were so desirous of finding Trump guilty of high crimes that they are actually grieving – in a state of mourning — as a result of the Mueller findings.  In their grief, they are angry.  They are lashing out. And continuing to punch that phony political tar baby of their own making.

Perhaps they deserve our pity.  It is sad to see people become so emotionally crushed – again – that they lose their minds — again.  But on the other hand, should we give sympathy to those who carried out this dangerous national sham?  These folks have been disrupting civic and political harmony with mendacious narratives designed to deceive and divide.  They have impeded the serious work of the President and the Congress.  They have not only falsely accused and demonized Trump, but also millions of Americans who would not join their debased Resistance Movement.

Before Democrats allow their anger and grief to further engulf them in their tar baby, they may consider a possible day of reckoning.  There are signs all over the political landscape that the American people are getting sick and tired of the rash of investigations that look increasingly more political every day.

Savvy politicos, like House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, well understand the potential of a dangerous backlash – she has said as much.  But can she rein in the radicals in her own caucus? So far, not.  Unlike Br’er Rabbit – who got away by outfoxing Br’er Fox — the Democrats seem determined to keep punching away at their discredited narratives.

So, there ‘tis.

Br’er Rabbit won out in the end…by convincing those that wanted to eat him that the WORST, most horrific thing that they could do to him would be to throw him into the briar patch…which was exactly what he wanted.

Great use of the word “mendacious”. I don’t need to look up definitions very often. Will be using this one with my liberal friends a lot. Thanks!

Democrat bureaucrats HAVE to keep beating this to death.
    1. It’s easier than doing the already easy job they were elected to do.
    2. They have to keep their equally stupid constituency pleased & happy!!!!

We can hope the Democrats IMPLODE as they continue beating this dead horse.

The alternative is, they might pursue some of the really DUMB legislation they talk about!
