Get out your torches and pitchforks boys and girls, and get ready for the greatest witch hunt yet, at least that is what Judge Napolitano says of the latest move by the House Judiciary Committee to investigate President Donald J. Trump.

Judge Andrew Napolitano, a Fox News senior judicial analyst, said that the new broad-sweeping House Judiciary probe into President Trump is “almost literally a witch hunt.”

Napolitano made the statement during a recent appearance on Fox News’ “Your World with Neil Cavuto,” with host Charles Payne filling in for Cavuto. “The president is right. This is almost literally a witch hunt. They’re looking for anything they can find,” Napolitano said.

Is Congress Overstepping Its Bounds in Investigating Trump?

While Napolitano was quick to characterize the investigation as a fishing expedition at best, and a “witch hunt” at worst, he also told host Payne, that unfortunately Congress is within its rights to do so. Napolitano said Congress has “tools with which to do it, unfortunately for the president.”

“There’s a Supreme Court opinion. And there are cases following it which says basically Congress’ investigatory powers are limited to bona fide federal issues,” he said. “But that is a very, very broad swath and Congress can investigate anything.”

The judge also said the president “can do very little about this.”

Napolitano’s comments were in response to the House Judiciary Committee’s requests to 81 agencies, entities and individuals, as part of a new probe into “alleged obstruction of justice, public corruption, and other abuses of power by President Trump. The Committee is now chaired by Jerry Nadler, D-N.Y.

Part of a Sweeping Investigation into Trump

In addition to the White House, Nadler is also seeking information from Trump family members, such as Donald Trump Jr., Eric Trump, and Jared Kushner; from former administration figures like former chief of staff Reince Priebus, former national security adviser Mike Flynn, former Attorney General Jeff Sessions and former spokeswoman Hope Hicks; and from Trump campaign figures like Brad Parscale and Corey Lewandowski.

On Monday, March 4, the White House confirmed that it had received a letter from Nadler.

“The House Judiciary Committee’s letter has been received by the White House,” Press Secretary Sarah Sanders said in a statement. “The Counsel’s Office and relevant White House officials will review it and respond at the appropriate time.”

Congressional Democrats have repeatedly promised to exercise tight oversight of the Trump administration since securing a majority in the House of Representatives in last November’s midterms. But Nadler’s comments signaled that Democratic leaders are not counting on Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s forthcoming report on possible Russia collusion to mark the end of such investigations.

Asked by reporters if he will cooperate with Nadler, Trump said, “I cooperate all the time with everybody. You know the beautiful thing: no collusion. It is all a hoax.”

Without naming Nadler, Trump recently tweeted that he was being “persecuted by some very bad, conflicted & corrupt people in a Witch Hunt that is illegal & should never have been allowed to start – And only because I won the Election!”

    two things about this:
    1) “almost literally a witch hunt” is a meaningless phrase. Either it is “literal” or it isn’t. In order to be “literal”, Trump would have to be self-identified as a “witch” or a warlock (practicing wiccan). And he is unlikely to be tortured by anyone except himself, while he tortures the rest of us with his abuse of logic and language as though they deserved our rapt attention.

    2) Judge Napolitano (properly ex-judge) is no particular brilliant jurist when it comes to liberal-versus-conservative ideology. Obviously we know which side of the line he paints from, and if he had a reputation for even-handed decisions, he would still be in that line of work instead of ideology-entertainment.

When you snap out of your infantile delerium come on back and post again, maybe then the post will be relevant to the conversation and maybe you will put a little cognitive effort into the post instead of wagging your tail like an obedient little drone.

The president has been ‘under investigation’ since day one by a team of sore losers who still haven’t gotten over their loss. Repubs need to instigate a ‘dossier’ and start investigations of Pelosi, Harris, Feinstein, Warren, Sanders et al….hold them all to the same standards they are holding President Trump. These investigations are nothing but political nonsense and hopefully the American voters can see through it!
