Did Ocasio-Cortez’s Chief of Staff Violate Campaign Law?

With all the brouhaha about Michael Cohen’s testimony and President Trump’s alleged violations of campaign finance laws, it seems that left-wing progressive darling Alexander Ocasio-Cortez may be finding herself in a similar pickle.

According to recent reporting by Fox News, Ocasio-Cortez’s chief of staff, Saikat Chakrabarti, apparently violated campaign finance law by funneling nearly $1 million in contributions from political action committees to private companies that he created and also controlled. The bombshell revelation is part of an explosive complaint filed on March 4 with the Federal Election Commission (FEC) and obtained by Fox News.

Allegations Look Bad for Ocasio-Cortez

Amid the allegations, a former FEC commissioner suggested in an interview with The Daily Caller News Foundation that Ocasio-Cortez and her team could separately be facing major fines and potentially even jail time if they were knowingly and willfully violating the law by hiding their control of the Justice Democrats political action committee (PAC). Such an arrangement could have allowed Ocasio-Cortez’s campaign to receive donations in excess of the normal limit, by pooling contributions to both the PAC and the campaign itself.

The FEC complaint asserts that Chakrabarti established two PACs — the Brand New Congress PAC and Justice Democrats PAC — and then systematically transferred more than $885,000 in contributions received by those PACs to the Brand New Campaign LLC and the Brand New Congress LLC — companies that, unlike PACs, are exempt from reporting all of their significant expenditures. The PACs claimed the payments were for “strategic consulting.”

Although large financial transfers from PACs to LLCs are not necessarily improper, the complaint argues that the goal of the “extensive” scheme was seemingly to illegally dodge detailed legal reporting requirements of the Federal Election Campaign Act of 1971, which are designed to track campaign expenditures.

“It appears ‘strategic consulting’ was a mischaracterization of a wide range of activities that should have been reported individually,” the complaint states.

According to Fox, the complaint was drafted by the conservative, Virginia-based National Legal and Policy Center (NLPC). According to the NLPC’s complaint, Ocasio-Cortez and her chief of staff appeared to have “orchestrated an extensive off-the-books operation to make hundreds of thousands of dollars of expenditures in support of multiple candidates for federal office.”

Unlike the current accusations being leveled against President Trump, “These are not minor or technical violations,” Tom Anderson, director of NLPC’s Government Integrity Project, said in a statement. “We are talking about real money here. In all my years of studying FEC reports, I’ve never seen a more ambitious operation to circumvent reporting requirements. Representative Ocasio-Cortez has been quite vocal in condemning so-called dark money, but her campaign went to great lengths to avoid the sunlight of disclosure.”

AOC will get away with breaking the law. Just as all Democrats do. Just ask Hilary. The Democrats are above the law and the Media will side with her.

Everyone serving in Congress should be held to the same scrutiny Democrats are foisting on the president. Let’s look into the business dealings of Pelosi, Feinstein, Schumer, Harris and, of course, Sanders. These lefties have made millions (perhaps billions) serving in public office!Key Republicans should be instigating investigations, putting together dossiers……combatting the outrageous onslaught of investigations forced on president Trump since day one. This is outrageous……and there’s no end in sight!

You are dreamer. The Republicans do not want to open that can of worms. The Republican in Congress & the Senate are just as crooked as the Democrats and they don’t want anybody looking into their finances. The bigger question is Why isn’t Trump and the new AG going after Hilary for the Private Server, Benghazi, the Uranium Deal with Russia, the Foundation, Comey, Strzok& Page, McCabe Rosenstein?
It is clear Mueller, after 2 years has been unable to come up with anything, so now the Democrats will keep throwing everything they can against Trump with the hope that something sticks. They have no evidence just hatred!

Regarding the serious issue this article’s contains, there’s a saying that very much applies ” to all wrong doing ” & especially to related ( big money ) infractions.

” Obey the Law & you are free from the Law; disobey/break the Law & you are subject to the Law “. Explanation: Laws, Statutes & regulations exist to enable life to be safe, prosperous, satisfying, enjoyable for all; & when they are adhered to you can live as you please within their boundaries.

But: when you either accidentally or worse, deliberately break the Law & thus found out, you are accordingly subject to & pay the price of any or all applicable minor/severe penalties imposed by whatever Law or Statute you break.

It’s plain as the sun shines on a cloudless day that AOC & her cronies will eventually be acknowledged for what they are. Users of the political system to milk it for all its worth. They aren’t the first to do so & ultimately will suffer ” big time ” for their nefarious activities, & they definitely won’t be the last of their kind.

Hillary was already investigated by none other than Ken Starr. The dude was the quintessential GOP hatchet-man, and despite his wildest imagination, he could not find anything to accuse her of doing, that was actually illegal. Right up there with the investigation of Bill getting a blow job.
    Huge waste of taxpayer money.

OTOH, GOP operatives using fake “information” from “wikileaks” (that is, Russian disinformation campaigns) manipulated the 2016 election. That act is treasonous if it involves a US person. If it involves the president, it is at least an impeachable offense, which getting a blow job isn’t.

The GOP is highly advised to use better judgment next time, about what to “investigate” and what to leave alone. Payback is a bitch.

Newsflash, Hillary Clinton hasn’t been investigated for her actions after her husband’s presidency.
Newsflash, Bill Clinton wasn’t investigated for getting a blow job. He got busted because he lied under oath about getting a blow job because of a civil suit filed against him by a woman he sexually harassed.
Boy, facts sure are a bitch.
