Mike Barnicle is not what he seems

Mike Barnicle is not what he seems

In the panoply of parroting pundits on MSNBC’s Morning Joe program, the guy often introduced as “the legendary,” is a triple-crown winner – taking the trophies for hypocrisy, mendacity and pomposity. He is Michael Barnicle – who appears on the morning talk show with inexplicable regularity.

There seems to be no explanation for the appellation “the legendary” other than the fact that he is still spewing his particularly jaded brand of political populism and adversarial analysis at the age of 75. (Of course, I am doing the same at the same age, but at least I do not claim to be “legendary.”)

Barnicle is a predictable, stereotypical New England left-winger of the old school. He talks anachronistically about labor unions as if they are the only firewall against corporate enslavement of the working class – even though unions represent less than 8 percent of all-American workers, and the number continues to decline.

He gained his early reputation as a scribe for the oppressed working class of Massachusetts. Barnicle is a compendium of contemporary left-wing talking points – single-payer health care, corporate taxation, pro-abortion, etc., etc., etc. Of course, he is a rabid anti-Trumper.

If Barnicle ever was a hard-hitting fact-based journalist, he has abandoned that role in recent years. His specialty on Morning Joe is lobbing softball questions at the program’s conveyor belt of left-wing guests. He recently asked the uber-liberal senator from Ohio, Sherrod Brown, whether Trump was a “clear and present danger” to America.

Barnicle is more likely to pontificate about the news with his obvious political bias than to analyze it with any evidence of journalistic integrity. Journalistic integrity is not his strong point. He resigned (was fired) from the Boston Globe after one case of plagiarizing and another of writing a human-interest column in which the humans could not be found.

When it comes to economic divide in America, Barnicle trumpets the cause of the underclass – as any good New England liberal would. While he is no friend of the one-percenters in his columns and comments, he is very cozy with the country club set in his private life.

Barnicle presents himself as a populist, but in reality, he is the bluest of blue-blooded Brahmans. He is married to Anne Finucane, vice chair of Bank of America and member of multiple corporate boards, including the CVS pharmaceutical chain stores. She ranked sixth in Boston’s list of “The 100 Women Who Run This Town” and is often referred to as one of the most powerful women in banking in the nation. Their combined annual incomes well exceed the million-dollar mark, and they have a net worth estimated between $10 and $20 million – and growing.

Barnicle talks like Bernie Sanders but lives like Donald Trump. While he fawns over the firebrand Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasia-Cortez, he represents everything that she finds reprehensible in society – an old rich white (toxic) male.

His never deviating from predictable comments and questions makes Barnicle one of the least interesting and least informative pundits on Morning Joe. He is overbearing and boring – and that is when he is at the peak of his game.

If you happen to be watching Morning Joe when Barnicle starts to opine, you can safely switch stations assured that you will miss nothing of value.

So, there ‘tis.

Not that you aren’t right about this guy but when you say switch channels as you won’t miss anything, we can safely say the same thing about Fox News, CNN and all your local news stations because they all brandish hypocrisy in some way.
Why don’t you beat up on Ann Colter, Sean Hannity, Sarah Sanders, Kelly Anne Conway so that we see that you are not as biased as these hypocritical cohorts.

To answer in the simplist way in order to break through any “ bias walls”; those to whom you refer can not be hoisted on the same picard as Barnicle simple because they always back up there rhetoric with facts not hyperbole. Coulter for one, footnotes all her writings with sources and has never been accosted by the left as spouting lies or inconsistencies.. only accosted by character assaination.

I can share your opinion about other stations not being as reputable however when you bunch together Ann Coulter and Sarah Sanders YOU LOST The Argument!!! Ann Coulter isn’t representative of conservative movement and frankly isn’t respected by many -the loud mouth that she is!! There are many liberal spewheads on FOX but NONE of conservative fact stating on SLOPPY JOE and other liberal channels !!!Sarah Sanders is a White House press Secretary and does a MARVELOUS JOB putting disrespectful, low class pretend to be reporters without a minimal knowledge of basic etiquette in their places! There are plenty of ONLINE information without bias if YOU WERE REALLY INTERESTED TO LEARN the DIRE SHAPE our country is in due to liberal SLIME, Obama TREASONOUS ADMINISTRATION and phony backstabbers RINOs -THE y FACTS you DELIBERATELY IGNORE!!!

I’m not familiar with “barnicle” and don’t plan to become so. I’m not a watcher of MSNBC any more than Fox “News”.

But to accuse this guy of soft-pedaling to DNC guests, is rather to ignore the rather obvious equivalents when Fox and ‘Friends’ gets upstaged by a possibly-intoxicated Trump, who calls in to take over the show.

When was that? If that was remotely true the lame stream media would be going apoplectic with joy.

You imply that Barnicle is so awful but the examples you sight describes a good Christ like person. By the way. No one is proaboration. A lot of kind people feel like it is not a government right to decide about personal medical decisions.

You are right on the money about Barnicle. I did notice his wife is much younger than him and can help support him in the one percent bracket. He can afford to be liberal and is a phony. Double standard for sure. I remembered him back in the day as a sports and boxing guy.

I still am trying to get a handle on WHY Liberals are so narrow-minded and uncompromising with their views. It seems to never change and it is doubtful they even may think of alternative ideas.

Larry, why are you not commenting on Trumps’ double defeat last week? You had predicted quite the opposite – don’t you think you owe us an explanation?

We New Englanders love him and he is a legend. If you only had him instead of Limpaw, you might be liked. He will urinate on Trump’s grave and get paid for it. lol
