Hillary is Back!

She’s baaaaaaaaack!  Or is she?

Hillary Clinton is back on the campaign trail.  Yes, the campaign trail.  She is at what is known as the “exploratory phase” of a presidential campaign.  Testing the waters, as they say.  She and hubby Bill have set off on a 13-city tour, complete with speeches, autograph signing and the ethereal strains of “Happy Days are Here Again” coursing through the minds of the former First Couple.

It is a campaign tour because no matter how unlikely are her chances, there is still a feint glimmer of hope that she can still make a comeback.  She is Rocky in Rocky II – or was it Rocky III or Rocky … oh never mind.  You got the point.

Remember, this is a woman who wanted … craved … lusted … to be President of the United States.  Not only President, but the first woman President – and the first husband-wife Presidents, to boot.  She wanted to be what that interloper Barack Obama – who spoiled her first anticipated ascendancy to the Oval Office – did for the black community.  As the first up-to-one-half black President, Obama not only stole the office from Hillary, but put an end to all those claims of American racism.  Oooops!  That didn’t happen.

In pursuit of her manifest destiny, Hillary finally secured the nomination of her Democratic Party in 2016 and immediately became the heiress-apparent to the Presidency – and she was up against the most unpopular and easily beatable president since  … since … since no one. But like a Greek tragedy – or maybe comedy – the fates stepped in with unmeasurable irony.  Hillary would win the popular vote, but, alas, lose the presidency.

It should have been a humbling moment except for the fact that the Clinton’s had long proven their ability to never be humbled.  It is just not in them.

Conventional wisdom – which is rarely conventional or wise – determined that Hillary had her last shot at the Presidency.  There were those among the more precocious newbies in the Democratic Party who even demeaned her value as a senior political statesman (or is it statesperson?).  She was all washed up.

But somewhere in the genetics that control presidential ambition is an evergreen gene that never shuts down.  Hillary was a sufficient student of history to know of President Grover Cleveland’s returned to the office after having been forced to sit out one term .  Then there was Richard Nixon, who – after is post-vice presidency defeat for governor of California – famously announced that an unspecified “you” will not have him to kick around anymore.  In less than a decade, he sat at the main desk in the Oval Office.  And then there was Ronald Reagan.  After his defeat in the 1976 primaries by President Gerald Ford, the old geezer … I mean gipper … was considered past the shelf-life of presidential candidates.

Hillary has less-than-subtly hinted at the obvious in a number of recent interviews — that she would “like to be President,” but she fell short of announcing a candidacy.  It is noteworthy that she did not use the past perfect tense by saying “I would have liked have been President” – conveying acceptance of an impossibility, or at least an improbably.  Nope.  She would “like to be.”

The is some rationality in her desire to run.  First and foremost, she did win the poplar vote.  She did beat a number of opponents in the Democrat primaries – some of whom are also testing the 2020 waters.  There are still a number of key players whose political fortunes had been – and remain – tied to the Clinton brand.  They would live to return with her.  And, there are still the remains of a formidable political and fundraising machine.

There are also a few personal characteristics.  The Clintons are ambitious and tenacious – to the point of obsessiveness.  They have repeatedly emerged from the murkiest and muddiest of situations only slightly soiled.  In fact, their entire combined political history has been one of repeatedly rising from the canvas after receiving seemingly knockout blows.

And finally, there is the great “why not?”  What does she have to lose by facing down the ageists and the radical newbies and giving it one more shot like Reagan did.  You never succeed by not trying.

Is this 13-city tour the first steps on the path to the presidency or a pathetic last “Sunset Boulevard” ending to an impressive political career?  Or … is this just another means to fulfill the Clinton’s other obsession – amassing money, optics and dignity be damned?

For sure, Hillary is fighting longer odds than in her defeats in 2008 and 2016.  She is a two-time loser – technical as that latest may be, but still a loser.

Also, these are not the same times as the past – not the same Democratic Party.  All those racial left-wingers who have risen to leadership in the Party consider the Clinton part of the old corrupt establishment.   She was the enemy of the Bernie Sanders phenomenon, beating him by hook or by crook – mostly by crook.  To them, she is old in both mind and body – a relic of the past.

The #MeToo Movement has changed the calculus of feminism.  In the past, sexual misbehavior was overlooked, if not fully condoned, by the ladies of the left whenever the offender was a liberal male supportive of the left’s agenda of “women’s issues.”  The assault on predaceous male sexual behavior has become more bipartisan – and Hillary’s past role as chief slanderer of wronged women is now a liability.  Standing by one’s man is as outdated as the Tammy Wynette song.

There is also the fact that she is traveling with her hubby.  Why?  He is no longer the highly popular ex-President he once was.  For Bill, the #MeToo Movement became a #HimToo Movement.

There is also the health issue.  Rumors of a weakened physical condition – and maybe even more serious health problems – have been circulating for years.  These have been given greater credence by actual events.  She collapsed during the 2016 campaign.  She has missed appearances for health reasons.  Even in the first of her 13-city events, she was paused by her increasingly frequent coughing fits – much more than one of those momentary clearings of the throat deals we see in orators.

Hillary’s ambition maybe be derailed simply by lack of interest.  Maybe there is just not enough there there to make it happen.  In her first road show appearance, the 10,000-seat venue was 80 percent empty.  Maybe selecting Toronto, Canada for the first visit was not the wisest.

Maybe after all, it IS just about the money.  The tour is being managed by the promotion company Live Nation as a ticketed event and the Clinton’s are getting a cut of the proceeds.

The Toronto Star summed it with their headline for the event. “Hillary and Bill Just Won’t Go Away.”  That is the only thing that seems to be certain at this time.

So-there ‘tis

Let’s get on thing straight-Hilldabeast did not win the popular vote-it is estimated that 3 million people voted illegally in California alone. Other states logged cases where the ballot boxes were stuffed with illegal votes. She didn’t win anything and she illegally funded her PAC with $84 million and cut off funding to Sanders–she cheated. Report the facts, please.

On yesterday‘s article on Germany, you never seem to have been there. Me being a German national living in Germany can only tell you: no mass rapes (this is just Trump propaganda, and you blindly believe it), no complete chaos with the million migrants, no total dissatisfaction with the Merkel government. Your beloved president would be more than happy with her approval rates. And after all, fortunately we don‘t have a fraction of homicides the U.S. has with your NRA-supported crazy shooters.

The presidency is a popularity contest. For at least the last century, the most popular of the major-party candidates wins.
Shrillary is unbelievably mendacious and repugnant. She is almost universally detested. Put her up against Trump and he wins again.
So cheer on Typhoid Shrillary. There’s nowhere she belongs as much as running for president. You go, girl.
