The Deplorable Alec Baldwin

Unlike Hillary Clinton, I will not ever stereotype groups of people as she did with her “basket of deplorables” appellation.  But, it is more than fair to characterize an individual as deplorable if the shoe fits, as they say.  Ergo the headline on this column.

While I will admit that part of my dislike for Baldwin has to do with his approach to politics.  It is not just that he is a Democrat or a radical left-winger.  That, in and of itself, does not make him a deplorable.  It is because he IS a deplorable person.  To wit…

Actor and political big mouth Alec Baldwin was recently arrested. According to the Washington Post:

“Alec Baldwin was arrested and charged with misdemeanor assault and harassment Friday after an argument over a New York City parking spot turned violent, according to police.  A New York Police Department spokeswoman said a 49-year-old man was punched in the face, and that Baldwin was arrested shortly before 2 p.m.”

The altercation was supposedly over a parking space, although Baldwin denied it.  Rather, he offered up an explanation that was short of explaining much.  He said, “I realize that it has become a sport to tag people with as many negative . . . charges and defaming allegations as possible for the purposes of clickbait entertainment.”

In 2014, when Baldwin was stopped by police for riding his bicycle in the wrong direction, rather than saying “Oh, sorry,” he became so belligerent that the police had to arrest him for disorderly conduct.  I guess there is no charge for “deplorable conduct.”

As a follow up, Baldwin gave the police officer’s name and badge number in a tweet saying, “a mismanaged carnival of stupidity that is desperate for revenue and anxious to criminalize behavior once thought benign.”  It seems every time Baldwin gets arrested, it is because the police are picking on him.

Then there was that time in 1995 when Baldwin went after a photographer that was taking photos of him – an odd reaction by a guy who lusts for fame.

In 2013, Baldwin did it again.  He attacked a photographer.  This time he was photographed attacking the photographer – and yes, that is the photo heading this column.  There were also other reports of Baldwin going after people who displease him.

Perhaps the most deplorable of all of Baldwin’s deplorable actions – many more fits of anger than those that got him occasionally arrested – was the message he left on his 12-year-old daughter Ireland’s answering machine because she was not there to answer his call.

He yelled into his daughter’s recorder: “You are a rude, thoughtless little pig. You don’t have the brains or the decency as a human being.  I don’t give a damn that you’re 12 years old, or 11 years old, or that you’re a child, or that your mother is a thoughtless pain in the ass who doesn’t care about what you do as far as I’m concerned. Once again, I have made an ass of myself trying to get to a phone. You have humiliated me for the last time with this phone.”

In the aftermath, Baldwin said that he has “a normal relationship” with his daughter.  Only a deplorable person would think that to be normal.  The only thing in that diatribe that makes sense is the he made an ass of himself.  If being an ass was a trophy, Baldwin would have permanent possession.

Of course, I take offense at Baldwin’s use of his hot temper to go on verbal tantrum against Republicans and conservatives.  He is the poster child of incivility.  He has often promised to leave America when Republican presidents were elected.  Sadly, he is not a man of his word.

Although, I did have an opportunity express my dislike for the man – and it had nothing to do with politics.

Baldwin went on a campaign to have horse drawn carriages removed from the streets of New York City, Chicago and other metropolitan areas. I happen to like those charming amenities.  In response, I took to the online Urban Dictionary to add a new term – the Baldwin Bag.  I defined it as “A bag worn by city carriage horses to catch their poop before it hits the pavement. Named after actor Alec Baldwin who went on a crusade to have the horse-drawn carriages banned.” With this required usage example. “Make sure the Baldwin bag is replaced after it is full of (expletive omitted).”

I thought it was a fitting honor since I consider Baldwin to be full of the same stuff that is captured in those Baldwin Bags.  The New York carriage livery folks like my ides so much that they adopted it as part of the carriage trade lingo.

Baldwin is arrogant beyond definition.  Seems to assume that he has a special entitlement to break the law and express his invented right of personal privilege with anti-social behavior.  Whether it is with his lips or his fist, he believes he has justification to dominate any situation in which he feels offended no matter how deplorable his behavior may be – even if the offender is a little girl.  It is so … so … so liberal of him.

So, there ‘tis.

Larry…Too many of us proudly wear the label of “deplorable” that crooked Hillary called us. We are patriots who have conservative values and really like the fact that President Trump has had so many successes in just 2 years –the economy, lower taxes and lower unemployment, job growth, new and better trade deals, hostages freed, 2 excellent SCOTUS Justices confirmed, cancelling the horrible Iran deal and the Paris Accord that was never about saving the planet, but just “all about the Benjamins” and how they would be redistributed. And…he is continuing to strengthen border security and build the wall.

That said, Alec Baldwin doesn’t belong in our proud “basket of deplorables.” He belongs, based on his very ugly rhetoric and behavior, in a bushel basket of leftist DESPICABLES!

I think the word ‘oaf’ fits him very well. How he got to be a film star of ‘note’ I cannot understand although his career seems to have stalled in the last decade or so. His portrayal of Trump on the Late Show was pathetic and he did not even look like Trump at all

Two months ago we got a puppy. Since he “goes” outside, my wife picked up a small rake and scoop to clean up the yard. I am naming it my Baldwin. Such a fitting honor.

This just scrapes the surface. For example, remember Baldwin retreating to an airline bathroom and staying there the entire flight when flight attendants asked him to refrain from using video games during the portion of a flight that all passengers were required to abstain?

Or how about his explosion of racist epithets and threats as detailed here verbatim by The Daily Mail:

    “By Lydia Warren
    “February 18, 2013

“Alec Baldwin has been accused of unleashing a racist rant on a New York Post photographer outside his apartment building, but the actor has claimed that HE is the victim of harassment.

“Photographer and retired NYPD detective G.N. Miller got into the altercation with Baldwin as he staked out the actor’s Manhattan home following news that his wife is being sued by a yoga student.

“Following the spat, the police were called and Miller, 56, and Baldwin, 54, both filed harassment claims against each other.

“The 30 Rock star allegedly called Miller, who is black, a racial epithet, a ‘c–n’, ‘a drug dealer’, a ‘crackhead’ and made disparaging remarks about his mother, according to Miller’s police statement.

“He also told the photographer to ‘suck my d***’ as pedestrians walked past, and when Miller showed him ID to prove he was a retired police officer, Baldwin branded it ‘fake’, Miller said.

“‘He was saying some serious racist stuff,’ Miller told the New York Post. ‘He could have said a lot of other stuff. But he used all of the stereotypes associated with black people.’

“Before the altercation on Sunday morning, Baldwin had been approached by a New York Post reporter and was asked for a comment about the lawsuit against his wife, Hilaria.

“The Post claims that Baldwin then grabbed the female reporter by her arm and said: ‘I want you to choke to death.’

“She allegedly recorded the comment and played it to police.

“But Baldwin took to Twitter to share his side of the story, referring to the photographer as ‘Ralston’.

“‘Moments after I tweet about the Post, Ralston, the ex-crackhead “photographer” shows up at my door w 1 of Murdoch’s nieces in tow,’ he wrote, in a tweet that has now been deleted.

“‘Ralston claims he’s ex NYPD!! That can’t be!!! Ex NYPD don’t become crackhead, ex jailhouse paparazzi!’ he wrote in another message….”

The Daily Mail article runs longer, but this gives you the flavor.

Another memory that comes to mind. Baldwin was tapped for his own talk show on MSNBC but his program was canceled days beforehand. Let’s hear the New York Times account of the flop:

    “By Ravi Somaiya
    “Nov. 26, 2013

“The actor Alec Baldwin’s short-lived show on MSNBC has been terminated, less than two weeks after he was suspended for making a gay slur in a confrontation with a photographer seeking to get pictures of him with his wife and baby.

“When it suspended Mr. Baldwin on Nov. 15, MSNBC said it would not telecast his new interview show, “Up Late,” for two weeks. Since then, the network had been in discussions with Mr. Baldwin and his representatives, said a person familiar with the negotiations, but the sides could not agree on a resolution.”

And guess what? There’s news today — November 7, 2018 — that an ABC talk show starring Baldwin is being, at best, postponed, and at worst canceled.

Baldwin should just declare himself a devout Muslim and flagellate himself for three hours daily.

    Make that six hours.

      Re: the post above:

In my account of Baldwin’s fumbled MSNBC show, I neglected to include Baldwin’s use of slurs and lying about it, as chronicled by the New York Times:

“”Mr. Baldwin and the cable network had “creative tension,” the person familiar with the negotiations said, adding, “Not everything was perfect before this happened.”

“The difficulties culminated after the confrontation with reporters, captured on video by the website TMZ. Mr. Baldwin at first denied using the gay slur, but eventually conceded that he had done so and issued a formal apology.”

Personally I have no time for journalists and photographers who harrass people on the street and even on the front steps of their homes. However there are dignified ways of dealing with them and Baldwin seems not to be able to do that. I also loathe talk shows so one less of them can only be a blessing. If they were reduced by 90% there would still be too many
