Stop Politicizing Political Terrorism

Neither the political right nor the political left has an exclusive franchise on violence. On both extremes of the political continuum, there exists individuals, and even small groups, of psychotic malcontents – people who operate with a misguided belief that acts of violence are justified in advancing a political agenda.

The American system of government has been successful because we overthrow our government through the electoral process, and we engage in political confrontation with words – often heated and angry, to be sure. Occasionally, however, some folks go too far.

The truth be known, virtually all of these acts of violence and terrorism hurt the cause the perpetrators purport to be supporting. Did Bernadette Dorn’s participation in deadly bank robberies advance her anti-Vietnam War proclamation? Did her later husband Bill Ayers’ planning of deadly bombings make him a more credible radical left-wing activist? Did the Unibomber really help environmental activists? Did people rally around their anti-federal government cause because Timothy McVeigh and Terry Nichols blew up the Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City? Does Antifa really advance their alleged anti-fascist agenda by vandalizing property and attacking peaceful protestors like a bunch of fascists?

If there is anything that should unite every American, it is the universal rejection of every act of violence and harassment. In addition, we should not use any acts of violence to spin shameful political narratives.

The recent spree of bombs delivered to a number of political figures is a horrific crime. It is more than an attack on politicians and journalists. It is an attack on the American system of government.

In this case, the potentially deadly actions were against individuals associated with the Democratic Party and left-wing politics. So, naturally, suspicion suggests some demented individual or individuals from the right side of the political spectrum. But, it would be wrong to connect that individual act to a partisan constituency or philosophic cause.

People who embrace violence are sick people … period. They are criminals. They are not – and should not be considered – to be allies of any legitimate political group. Was James Hodgkinson, who attempted to murder a group of Republican congressmen at a baseball practice, representing the interests of the Democratic Party? Of course not.

Such linkage is no more valid than claiming that Maxine Waters’ promoting public harassment or former Attorney General Eric Holders’ suggestion to kick the opposition on the ground are the causes of such extreme violence. The decision to extend protest to the point of violence – especially deadly or potentially deadly violence – is the exclusive responsibility of the perpetrator(s). It is their crime – their sin – exclusively.

Sadly, that view has not been seen in the response to the recent bomb attempts. No sooner had the story unfolded than Democrats and the left-wing media started to spin narratives of President Trump’s complicity. They claim that his pugnacious attitude and tough talk encourage such violence – especially against journalists.

In their reports, they resurrect every combative statement Trump has made in the past three years, while totally ignoring all the provocative statements made by Democrats. In not having made any such linkage at the time of the congressional shooting, the media again reveals the depth of its bias. The media is more obsessed with narratives of linkage than they are about the story itself. Those panels of parroting pundits are singing off a one-note partisan song sheet.

The post bomb-dropping story makes a mockery of those oft heard pleas for a national unity and the toning down of the rhetoric. Those mendacious reports only stoke the flames of partisan disconnect and discontent.

While this has become a major news story, we should not forget that President Trump and so many others in public life receive innumerable threats of physical harm or death every day. It is the reason why mail sent to former presidents and members of Congress go first to a mail center where sophisticated equipment is used to pre-check every package before it is sent on to the named recipient.

As an American citizen of the conservative type, I can sincerely say that I am happy that none of those bombs went off – and pray that none in the future will. I am thankful that none of the targets were reached and that they and their families are safe – or at least as safe as a public figure can be.

The person who did this is no ally of mine, and I hope he, she or they will be apprehended soon – and suffer the full force of American justice.

So, there “tis!

With the targeting of left wing politicians, left leaning celebs and especially in the case of ex-president Obama, suspicion automatically turns to the conservatives.

However, the routine checking of politicians and ex-pres’ mail is a well known procedure. It makes me suspicious in another direction.

Why would a “right wing terrorist” go to the trouble of making fake IEDs, knowing full well they would be easily detected.

The whole thing stinks, the only political advantage gained by this so far, is for the left and their Trump Derangement Syndrome.

What I’d really like to know is this: if “mail sent to former presidents and members of Congress go[es] first to a mail center where sophisticated equipment is used to pre-check every package before it is sent on to the named recipient,” why, then, did any of these packages actually get delivered, and why weren’t they stopped at the mail center?

All of us law-abiding citizens are required to take parcels over one ounce to the post office to be mailed and hand it over to a postal clerk. Posting a parcel from a deposit box is specifically outlawed according to a notice on such boxes. Is there no system or procedure in place to ensure that the rule is followed. How is it that the illegally mailed packages made it all the way to the recipients? SOMETHING IS FISHY HERE!!! OR IS THIS JUST ANOTHER CASE OF GOVERNMENT INCOMPETENCE?
