The Gosars: A Political Family Divided

The Gosars: A Political Family Divided

Not since the tragic biblical story of brothers Cain and Able have we seen a better domestic example of sibling rivalry – obviously not considering any number of foreign royal siblings knocking off each other throughout history. I am referring to America’s latest celebrity dysfunctional family: the Gosars.

If as a means of maintaining your sanity, you avoid all news coverage, allow me to update you.

The Gosar family, of Arizona, is composed of a mom, a dad – and ten children. On the surface, they might seem like one of those iconic, big western families – mom in the ruffled apron, dad in bib overalls, a bunch of kids in hand-me-down clothes – and at least one John Boy.

True to the promises of the American Dream, one of the Gosar boys, Paul, becomes a conservative congressman in 2013 – a regular Mr. Smith Goes to Washington character.

Somewhere along the line, the fairy-tale story takes on a darker hew, however.

At least six of the ten siblings left the homestead for more libertine political environments. They traded in their parents’ – and Paul’s – conservative values for the trendy temptations of the radical left. That, in and of itself, should not be a problem. Many families have members of differing political viewpoints – mine included.

Paul turned out to be a fairly popular congressman, winning his re-election campaigns by more than 70 percent of the vote on occasion. Needless to say, Mom and Pop Gosar are very proud of their boy – but not a number of his siblings. In fact, when Paul ran for his fourth term, six of the Gosar children appeared in a campaign ad for his opponent.

They say terrible things about Paul – the kind of things left-wingers always say about Republicans and conservatives. You know, he is a racist, a sexist, a homophobe and worse, if they could think of it. In a television interview, brother David, one of the Gosar Six, even dragged out that old bromide of left-wing accusations – that Paul is, you know, not himself. That he is losing it mentally at the age of 59. I thought only despots and dictators in places like Russia, China and North Korea categorize disagreement as a form of mental illness.

The Gosar Six never liked Paul very much. They never liked his conservative opinions. Hell, they did not respect the conservative opinions of their own parents. They apparently are not very happy with three other Gosar children who would not join in the political incest-icide of their brother.

The Gosar Six said that they are coming forward and even endorsing Paul’s opponent to save the family name. Would Mom and Pop agree? Obviously not. The 85-year-old Ma Gosar first learned of her family’s betrayal in a call from the New York Times, and said she was “shocked” and “crushed.” She said she shares “the same philosophy and policies as Paul does.”

Seems to me that they are degrading the family name – holding it up to national ridicule to get some publicity. I bet there will be more runs for public office in the future for one or two of the Six. Just a hunch. There are already rumors that Democrat officials are looking to recruit some of them. The one sibling, Pete, who ran unsuccessfully for governor of Wyoming as a Democrat was not in the video, but he had previously signed letters against his brother.

But why would six of the Gosar kids – okay, not kids – suddenly despise their brother so much that they could no longer – as one put it – “keep their peace.” They said that – in addition to being the personification of every possible offensive “ism” – they did not like his votes on Obamacare and taxation. But, those are old issues. Why now?

Actually, we know the answer: because brother David — the titular head of the Gosar resistance movement – told us. He said it was his criticism of radical left-wing uber donor George Soros for his controversial cooperation with the Nazis in Germany. That albatross has been hanging around Soros’ neck since … well … since the Nazis were in power in Germany. Soros is also notorious for funding a lot of anti-American socialist movements within the United States. I wonder if brother David comes to the defense of the Kock brothers when they are smeared. I bet not.

There seemed to be another reason for the Gosar Six’s actions at this time. Donald Trump. They appear to have enlisted in the #NeverTrump resistance movement back in November of 2016. Was the anti-Republican ad just a manifestation of TDS (Trump Derangement Syndrome)?

When asked about the feelings of his parents in seeing six of their children beat up on a sibling – and the long-held family values — David said that “political conversations within the family never ended well.” We could have assumed that.

Congressman Paul shrugged off the entire event. He said his siblings are just typical left-wingers who put their politics ahead of family. Chances are that brother Paul will be returning to Congress next year. He represents a district that reflects his views a lot more than the views of his errant siblings.

Given the publicity the anti-sibling political ad has been given, the next logical step is a reality television program, “Thanksgiving with the Gosars.”

With the state of the economic world as it is, particularly that of the US, any comment by anyone with an “extensive back ground in economics, public policy and politics and consulted by Forbes and Milton, needs very careful consideration and study. As one intelligent Wig reportedly stated “save us from economists and politicians”.

Thanks for writing about this. I avoid a large amount of media for the reason that it is so one sided and favors the left.
