Google’s Search Engine Scandal

Within days of President Trump’s January 2017 Executive Order banning certain suspect countries from traveling to the United States, Google employees led by Mackenzie Thomas – a Google product marketing manager – began an email chain “brainstorming”  on ways to “actively counter algorithmically biased results” for search terms including “Islam, Iran, Mexico, Latino.”

“In other words, Google employees wanted to alter search results to make them more positive, for political reasons. Thomas also suggested promoting links for making donations to organizations fighting the travel ban,” Fox News host Tucker Carlson reported.

“This, of course, would be completely dishonest and unethical behavior, but Thomas’s colleagues seemed all in,” Carlson added.

The revelation came to light during a segment of Fox’s prime time news show hosted by Daily Caller co-founder Tucker Carlson, who obtained information in the form of the tech company’s emails showing Google employees discussing ways of manipulating search results on their massive platform.

Carlson opened the segment discussing the tech giant’s pervasive and growing influence within the political arena with this blockbuster report.

“Shortly after taking office, President Trump issued his now famous travel ban. Almost immediately, Google employees began plotting ways to undermine the President’s executive order.”

The Fox host then revealed the emails going back and forth within the company to his audience: “We’re absolutely in, Mackenzie. Anything you need. Will put together a list of orgs with Meryl and H-L team,” replied product manager Rami Banna.

After Carlson’s report, Google attempted to spin itself out of trouble with this statement. “These emails were just a brainstorm of ideas, none of which were ever implemented. Google has never manipulated its search results or modified any of its products to promote a particular political ideology, not in the current campaign season, not during the 2016 election, and not in the aftermath of President Trump’s executive order on immigration.”

Adding; “Our processes and policies would not have allowed for any manipulation of search results to promote political ideologies.”
Carlson incredulously responded to Google’s explanation.

“If you ran a bank, and you caught your tellers ‘brainstorming’ about how to rob the vault, would you be OK with that? Remember that Google fired an engineer named James Damore almost instantly last summer when he was caught expressing mildly conservative ideas in a private memo,” Adding; “Here Google employees are plotting to subvert our entire public conversation, but that’s fine with Google.”

President Trump, who has admitted on more than one occasion to tuning into the Tucker Carlson Show, tweeted out this message for Google in late August.

“Google search results for “Trump News” shows only the viewing/reporting of Fake News Media. In other words, they have it RIGGED, for me & others, so that almost all stories & news is BAD. Fake CNN is prominent. Republican/Conservative & Fair Media is shut out. Illegal? 96% of….”

Carlson had previously revealed how a Google executive sought to use company resources to promote voter turnout during the 2016 Presidential election in support of Hillary Clinton.

The Daily Caller News Foundation in early January also revealed though a series of intensive investigations that Google’s search engine was purposely giving out false information regarding conservative websites.
