Media Discovers That Collusion is Not a Crime

The anti-Trump media has pounced on the statement by former New York Mayor and current Trump attorney Rudy Giuliani that collusion is not a crime. The media spin on the statement is that the Trump camp is now conceding that there may have been collusion with the Russians – but it was not a crime. That interpretation relies on bias, not logic.

In an effort to “get Trump,” the media infuses ominous meaning into a simple fact that has been known since the entire Russian issue rose to the surface. Collusion is not a crime – never has been and never will be.

Giuliani was by far not the first to correct the misuse of the word. Judge Andrew Napolitano and attorney Alan Dershowitz were just two among dozens who periodically explained the distinction between collusion and criminal conspiracy to the press and the public. It just never sunk in.

It is the reason that in my commentaries I used the term “criminal collusion” to distinguish it from regular every day collusion in which we all participate. Though the real crime is officially known as criminal conspiracy, for reasons of convenience or rhetorical laziness the word “collusion” has been incorrectly substituted in the general discussion. When the Democrats and the media accuse Trump of collusion, and when Trump says there was no collusion, they are really referring to criminal conspiracy.

In the case of the Giuliani remark, the #NeverTrump media shamefully went into full propaganda mode. They misrepresented, distorted and exaggerated Giuliani’s very accurate statement to give it a sinister meaning that it did not have.

In a subsequent tweet, Trump restated Giuliani’s observation that collusion, itself, is not a crime – and reaffirmed that his campaign did not collude with the Russians in any way that would suggest a criminal conspiracy.

Facts be known, Special Counsel Robert Mueller is not … repeat not … investigating collusion with Russia or anyone else by Trump. Why? Because it is not a crime. Mueller is looking into criminal conspiracy.

The current media spin has been the latest in a long history of misinforming the public about the definition of collusion. The chain of misrepresentation goes like this. Trump people met with Russians. That is prima fascia collusion – the legal type. Collusion is illegal they incorrectly IMPLY (wherein lies the deception). Therefore, Trump is guilty of a crime. That is nothing more than false biased reporting — propaganda.

I agree that Mueller is focusing on conspiracy, and not the non-crime collusion, but what is the specific crime that the co-conspirators were conspiring to commit? If it is a crime to conspire to interfere with the election what do we call Obama’s giving imillions in tax dollars to the opposition party in Israel to prevent Netanyahu from being elected ?
