President Trump’s busy week continued after his historic nomination of Judge Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court on Monday by jetting out to Europe for the NATO Summit on Wednesday.

Before he left for Europe, President Trump tweeted out that the NATO situation was “not fair, nor is it acceptable.”

Moreover, he jokingly called Russian President Vladimir Putin his “easiest” stop on his four-country tour.

Tweeting out, “I have NATO, I have the UK, which is in somewhat turmoil, and I have Putin. Frankly, Putin might be the easiest of them all. Who would think? ”

The president’s arrival in Brussels for the start of the 28th summit had some member nations feeling a bit anxious – and with good reason. Unlike President Obama, who visited European allies exclusively for photo-ops, President Trump once again reminded the 23-member nations to pay their fair share of the collective cost of protecting their respective countries.

However, that wasn’t the only issue on the president’s agenda. In fact, the moment the president met with Jens Stoltenberg, NATO’s secretary general, he bluntly asked about the energy agreements reached between European Union members and Russia.

The testy exchange between the president and the head of NATO was inevitable, with the president repeatedly pressing Stoltenberg on the topic of the U.S. paying into the NATO military alliance while countries like Germany purchase their energy needs from Russia – the country NATO was established to defeat.

The president was referring to the Nord Stream 2-pipeline running from Russia directly to Germany. The pipeline would double the amount of “Russian gas” sent directly to Germany.

The United States, along with some European Union members, oppose the project. The president doubled down on the inconsistent message being sent from Germany stating: “We’re supposed to protect you against Russia and yet you make this deal with Russia.”

Currently only 5-nations pay more than 2% of their GDP. Those nations are the United States paying 3.6%, Greece paying 2.36%, Estonia 2.18%, the U.K. 2.17% and Poland 2.01%.

The president had made NATO an issue long before he decided to become a politician. However, once he threw his hat into the political ring and decided to run for president, it became a focal point and a campaign issue to resolve the obvious imbalance.

Go President Trump! Finally a LEADER who isn’t shy about pointing out obvious flaws and who didn’t run for office for his own personal gain. God bless Donald and Melania Trump!
