No sooner did I publish a commentary on how friendly and well the vast majority of Americans get along – and it is still true – you see an exception to the rule. Of course, I did note in my commentary that there are a few jerks out there, but “they are few and far between.”

Stephanie Wilkinson, owner of the Red Hen restaurant in Lexington, Virginia is one of those few and far between examples. She recently booted White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders out of her eatery for … being loud and obnoxious? … engaging in a food fight? … insulting other customers? … not paying the bill? No, no, no. Sarah was asked to leave because she works for the President of the United States – a person Wilkinson obviously detests with an irrational passion.

It is noteworthy that Sanders and her dinner party were not denied admission. In fact, they had already ordered and were enjoying the appetizers. Apparently, one of the workers called the owner to inform her that Sanders and her guests were dining in her establishment. Whether the worker was complaining to the boss or just informing her of a celebrity guest, we do not know.

What we do know is that Wilkinson rushed over to her restaurant and asked Sanders to leave. To underscore her specific hatred, Wilkinson said the others in the party could remain – as if that was going to happen.

Of course, this became the top story of Sunday morning – temporarily squeezing out the border issue. Only the creative and determined #NeverTrump media could find a way to spin the story against Sanders and commend the disgraceful action of the owner. New York Magazine went so far as to accuse Sanders of bullying the restaurant.

It seems Sanders issued a matter-of-fact report of the event on her White House email account. Immediately, biased and factually ignorant media contributors and panelists proffered a false argument that Sanders had violated government ethics by trying to damage a private business. They even went so far as to say that Sanders called for a boycott on the business – which she did not.

The ethics angle is nothing more than partisan theatrics. Sanders is a public figure that was attacked solely because of her government position. She is the news communicator for the White House. Had this been done to another top staffer, she would have been correct in making an official report. I would be amazed if, at the next White House briefing, Sanders would not be asked to respond to the incident from the podium with the White House sign behind her.

So, what about a boycott. At this stage, I cannot say if there will be one or not. But, if there is a boycott or demonstrators outside the Red Hen, the blame is on the shoulders of Wilkinson. She foolishly (in the interest of comity, I did not say “stupidly.”) started a national brouhaha that neither she nor Sanders needed – or the nation needed.

I also lay some blame on the anti-Trump media that has so dishonestly demonized Republicans and conservatives who are not part of the resistance movement. They have tapped into the unfortunate instinct of the radical left to take matters in their own hands – whether it is vulgar rudeness, angry confrontations – and even violence.

Oddly, I believe Wilkinson had a right to kick Sanders out of her restaurant. That is because I am a conservative. The First Amendment and the control of private property give Wilkinson the right to be irrationally obnoxious on her premises. She did nothing illegal – just … shall we say … ill-advised. But, in exercising that right, people can say and do things that are just wrong. In an incredible statement of self-description, Wilkinson said, “I am not a huge fan of confrontation.” Fooled me.

Open to the public means just that. But while Sanders was served her food, she also could have been served the owner’s strong opinions on her lying and nastiness of both her and her boss in dealing with the media. At that point, she probably would simply “self-deport.”

You are the foolish left that this writer is speaking of. I agree with the writer Wilkinson did have the right to foolishly remove her. But I will also say you are the person who would believe that a person who bakes cakes for a living and doesn’t want to bake a cake against his beliefs she be put in prison or his business taken away. The hypocrisy and hatred of the left never ceases to amaze me.

AND while said owner delivered her nasty opinion, Mrs Sanders could give it right back to her!
By the way, Mrs Sanders has proven how well she can give it back! 👍

“…lying and nastiness…”??? Surely, not by the media and clowns with Trump Derangement Syndrome. It will be interesting to see how this ends for the restaurant.

How can Wilkerson have a right to kick somebody out of her establishment without a reason. She is licensed by some part of the community to serve the public. Right?

Good. If conservatives are going to allow themselves to be treated this way then it will continue. The other groups protest because that is what works.

I wonder if Mrs.Sanders would have been kicked out of the restaurant if she were a conservative person of color? I don’t think Wilkerson would have the intestinal fortitude for that fight.
