Tom Steyer – billionaire kook

Tom Steyer – billionaire kook

Just to be sure labeling billionaire Tom Steyer as a “kook” isn’t a mischaracterization, I thought it prudent to check the definition in the online dictionary. It defines a kook simply as “a crazy or eccentric person.” Based on that, I believe the appellation is apt.

So, why would I suggest that a billionaire businessman and the Democratic Party’s largest donor – and even the largest individual donor in American history if you adjust the dollar historically? His $70-plus million in a single election cycle makes those demonized Koch brothers look like pikers.

Steyer is far from being the folksy, aw-shucks guy he plays in his ubiquitous television commercials promoting the impeachment of President Trump. I exposed the real Tom Steyer in an earlier commentary.

At that time, I viewed him as an extremely ambitious and clever rich guy with a devious plan to promote himself into the presidency. I did not believe that he actually thought impeaching the president was practical or possible. The only rational explanation for expending tens of millions of dollars on those ads was to harvest millions of emails for some future use.

That may still be the plan, but his continued purchase of airtime for commercials that are getting sillier and sillier has made him a bit of a kook. Ol’ Steyer is starting to sound and act like the irrepressible and occasionally irrational Maxine Waters, who began to beat the drums of impeachment right after her rude awakening the morning after the Trump election.

Like any other political Johnny-one-note, Steyer’s popularity with the press started to peter out. To cling to credibility, Steyer has put a new spin on his impeachment campaign – actually a couple new spins.

First, he has broken with Democrats who will not join his quixotic campaign. He has accused Nancy Pelosi of helping Trump by “normalizing” him. Accusing Pelosi of helping Trump in any way, shape or form shows just how off-kilter Steyer is becoming. Referring to Pelosi, he said “You have normalized this presidency, you have normalized his behavior.”

His frustration with the Democrats is so rabid that he even announced that he would no longer be a major donor. Ironically, in holding back his tens of millions, Steyer may be the one helping Trump and the Republicans more than Pelosi.

In a descent into unbelievably arrogant hubris, Steyer has compared his one-man, self-funded campaign to … get ready, drum roll … the civil rights movement. It was that leap of logic that earned Steyer the “kook” title. I mean, really. The multi-generational effort that cost thousands of lives to free the black community from the slavery, segregation, and oppression of the Democratic Party is no more or less than his ego-driven effort to sell an idea that no one is interested in buying.

So far, the tens of millions Steyer has already spent have not moved the needle of impeachment one millimeter closer to reality. In fact, the thought that the Democrats may offer up bills of impeachment if they take over the House is driving votes to GOP congressional candidates – and Pelosi knows it. That is why she is desperately trying to silence the likes of Steyer and Waters, and all those others who are acting like a political lynch mob.

Whether Trump is every impeached, or not, — with the latter the more likely – it will be due to yet unforeseen events. It will have nothing to do with Tom Steyer. They say a fool and his money are soon parted. Unfortunately, Steyer has enough money to play the political fool for a long time.

You, sir, are very biased. When you sing the praise of someone who has simply never learned to be diplomatic or kind when speaking to people who have different views, You must be cut from the same cloth as Mr. Trump. When our leaders can show respect for ALL, the America we love will be great again. My husband is a Republican and I am an Independent. Mutual respect makes a home where we can live peacefully.
