Abdulrahman Mohamed El-Sayed, a Muslim, is a Democrat candidate for governor in Michigan. During a candidates’ forum, he took on Republican candidate Patrick Colbeck.

Colbeck accused El-Sayed of having indirect ties to the Muslim Brotherhood because of his one-time affiliation with the radical Muslim Students Association. Fair criticism or cheap shot, that is for the voters to decide. However, the Brotherhood has been declared a terrorist organization by several Arab states, including Saudi Arabia, Egypt and the United Arab Emirates.

Colbeck stressed, however, that these types of groups are not religious in nature, but political. Just having “Muslim” in the name does not mean they are representatives of the Islamic faith, which Colbeck defends. The GOP candidate underscored the distinction by saying that he “loves” religious Muslims.

El-Sayed would have none of it. He went on a tirade against Colbeck and Republicans in general for not standing up to Islamophobia – at least whatever Islamophobia El-Sayed had in mind. Apparently, El-Sayed was not paying attention when Colbeck expressed his love of Muslims.

It is noteworthy that El-Sayed is not some kooky outlier candidate, like David Duke, who has been repeatedly repudiated by the GOP. He is a medical doctor and serves as the health director for the City of Detroit – appointed by Democrat Mayor Mike Duggan.

As if that is not enough, El-Sayed travels the path of the far left. He is a college professor and has been a recipient of tens of thousands of dollars in grants from the Paul & Daisy Soros Fellowships for New Americans. New Americans? According to his online biography, El-Sayed was born in Detroit. Paul Soros is the brother of George Soros, the billionaire funder of the radical left, here and abroad. El-Sayed’s campaign for governor has been endorsed by Linda Sarsour, who regularly spews anti-Semitic and racist statements and has called for Jihad against those she deems enemies.

Having worked himself into a political hissy-fit, El-Sayed closed his comments by saying: “Now, you may not hate Muslims, but Muslims definitely hate you.” Say what? Ponder that for a moment. A Democrat candidate for governor of the great state of Michigan contends that Muslims, as a group, hate … hmmmm. Hate who? Did he mean Colbeck, personally? All Republicans? All non-Muslims? Actually, it does not matter because the only thing for sure is that El-Sayed is attempting to cover his own not-so-latent hatred and hostility even as he maligns all Muslims as haters.

As shocking as his comment may be, it is not entirely surprising that it should come from a left-wing Democrat candidate. If El-Sayed is playing with a full deck, they are all race cards.

One has every reason to expect that the Democrat leaders and the media will be giving this statement all the righteous outrage that we have seen in their justified condemnation of people like David Duke. There should be an official statement from Democrat National Chairman Tom Perez assuring America that El-Sayed does not represent the Democratic Party – or better yet, it should come from Deputy Democrat National Chairman and fellow Muslim, Congressman Keith Ellison.

El-Sayed seems to think Republicans, non-Muslims and candidate Colbeck should do more to push back against anti-Muslim sentiment. Shouldn’t there be a pushback against El-Sayed’s overtly hateful statement against non-Muslims? Well, don’t hold your breath. The Democrats will not push back, and the media bias will not allow it to play in prime time.

As a footnote, El-Sayed thinks that Sharia Law should be part of the American judicial system.
