Don’t let the radical left destroy the White House Correspondents’ Dinner

Many on the left believe that White House Correspondents’ Dinner should be ended.  They complain that it has turned into a three-ring media circus.  It reflects badly on the profession, they claim.  Already, one of Washington’s insider publications, The Hill, has announced an intention to boycott future dinners.

In viewing the event this year, it is hard to disagree with those reviews.  It was awful.  It was not the common ground or civility as it had been in the past, but a killing field for Democrats to ambush Republicans – for the left to assault the right.  One of the most common adjectives characterizing this year’s event was that it was “mean-spirited.”

But it has not always been so.  In the days I attended, it was a dignified event with genuinely funny jokes and appropriate recognitions of outstanding journalism.  If you were a Republican or conservative in the audience, you never felt unwelcomed, uncomfortable or angry.  The jokes flew in all directions.

Though there was humor inherent in past dinners, it was not a roast.  It was more in the tradition of Will Rogers and Mark Russell (look him up).  The objective of the featured speakers and entertainers was not to arouse but to amuse.

Also, it was not a national event.  There was no red carpet lined by reporters.  There were no gaggles of movie and television celebrities who flew in from Hollywood to schmooze with the political elite and get a little face time with the political paparazzi.  It was not televised except for a moment or two on the evening news.  It was not a command performance for presidents – and they mostly did not appear.

As long as the event is a partisan attack from the left, there is no reason for Republicans or conservatives to participate.  The brutal treatment of White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee-Sanders demonstrates just how far the Dinner has traveled from it professional roots.

There can be no doubt that the dinner has become the prodigal son of the journalism profession.  And ironically, it was the radical left that currently dominates the major news and entertainment worlds that transformed the event from a celebration of journalistic achievement into a bacchanal of radical left ideology.  It was the left’s ties to Hollywood that made the dinner a quasi-entertainment event.

But like the Prodigal Son of biblical fame, the event is not beyond redemption.  It does not need to be reformed as much as restored to its original purpose.  It should be an event by and for the White House correspondents and the folks they cover.  It once was a grand event and it could be again.

Wolf turned a celebratory event into a slaughter. I am proud to be deplorable and to have boycotted many entertainers and Hollywood for allowing their hate to hurt others. The only thing I listen to or watch now is Fox and Friends! I WILL NOT spend my time and money on people who destroy Our President and the people he chose for important positions. Watching the skit on the internet made me cry for Sarah Huckabee Sanders.🙏🏻🇺🇸

Victoria- Beauty and ugliness exist in the eyes of the beholder. History is filled with hateful ridicule and criticism. Hitler received both praise and criticism for his policies. Perhaps you will change your views in the light of future actions by our President, who knows?

We are the frog that is almost cooked. We will reap what we are sowing. History proves that. I am 79 years old. My how far we have come. There is no outrage at vulgarity. It is common. Cool. Acceptable. Even funny. And to joke and get laughter about killing babies. Appalling. More disgusting is the number of unborn babies being aborted. Drugs, sex, vulgarity. What kind of culture for my 8 grandkids? Frightening. Yes, I am a Christian, my only hope, and the hope of my family.
There is a remnant left. Hearts need to be changed. There is hope.

This idiot woman not only sank to a special, incredible level of stupidity, she showed just how little class she has!! An entertainer? Hardly! I wouldn’t hire her to walk my dog! She showed just how brainless and disgusting her line of work has become as well as the rest of the so-called “entertainers” in Hollywood. I have no regard or respect for ANY of them!

Most comedians are not comedians. They are vicious left wing Liberial evil things that have negative spewing from their soul. They hate everyone including themselves. The subject non-comedian is no exception. Call it treason and stick her in a box for the rest of her hateful life

Last year Obama referenced “Jokes that White People shouldn’t tell.” I suggest that Wolf, a Black feminist comic told jokes that only a Black Feminist Comic could tell. Her jokes, were pointed, had merit. The baseness of blood, monthly periods (referencing her joke about Ivanka’s use for the empowerment of women being as useful as an empty box of tampons, did what it was intended to do. Her joke about Sara Sanders lies, being to women what uncle Tom, is to Black men, is also on point. Most of her jokes weren’t about Trump, most were about the media, congress, Trump allies. I suggest many in the audience didn’t laugh because they didn’t get the jokes. Wolfe is smart, accurate, and personally if you got the jokes, she was hillarious.

BLAME THE MESSENGER, Michelle Wolf would have nothing to talk about if Trump were a decent resident. The only reason she could get away with this crap (and it was crap) because Trump has earned the dislike and even hatred of millions. Why cant the comments be aobut Trump, not about Wolf?
