Since the election of Donald Trump, former director of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) John Brennan has been a regular contributor and panelist for the left-leaning media – most notably MSNBC and CNN. He is always built up as an objective expert on matters of intelligence and national security. Despite his ubiquitous appearances, he is often described as a man who avoids making public comments – suggesting that each appearance is somehow an extraordinary response to current events.

Before being appointed CIA director by President Obama, he had served the president as National Security Advisor. These positions are significant because Brennan was a key player in President Obama’s failed foreign policy. He was part of making the policies that resulted in walking away from the red line in Syria, the policies that created one of the most tragic migrations in history (the negative impacts of which are still resonating throughout Europe), the policies that had the United States prematurely withdraw from Iraq and consequently, the policies that gave rise to ISIS – a terrorist group President Obama called “junior varsity” based on the intelligence provided by Brennan.

In his regular appearances in the media, Brennan has proven to be anything but an objective observer of current events. Rather, he has been a constant and strident critic of Republicans in general and Trump specifically. He has been one of the echoes in the never-Trump echo chamber.

If there ever was any sophistication to his commentaries or objectivity in his strained opinions, that veneer of credibility was lost with his tweet following the firing of Deputy FBI Director Andrew McCabe at the recommendation of the FBI’s Inspector General (IG) and Office of Professional Responsibility (OPR). Brennan tweeted:

“When the full extent of your venality, moral turpitude, and political corruption becomes known, you will take your rightful place as a disgraced demagogue in the dustbin of history. You may scapegoat Andy McCabe, but you will not destroy America…America will triumph over you.”

Having engaged in a pugnacious and personal attack on Trump, Brennan has lost all moral authority to criticize the President’s tweets – which Brennan has done consistently.

The former CIA chief’s defense of McCabe further establishes Brennan’s credentials as a partisan member of the never-Trump resistance. Though the details have yet to be revealed, according to the independent IG and OPR, McCabe was guilty of many transgressions worthy of termination – and that is what they recommended. These facts are apparently irrelevant to Brennan.

It is fair to wonder what role Brennan may have played in the intel community’s controversial activities following the Trump election?
